Bama @ Arkansas Game Thread

Don't agree with this. We are going to have most - if not all - of these guys on the team next year, aren't we?

Better to start teaching good habits/defense NOW.

Sorry, but I must not have articulated my point very well because this is not what was meant. :) Obviously, I want the team to be taught good habits and HOW to play defense (and to be pushed as TIDE-HSV has stated). I highlighted the excerpt from Reb's post because I agree that this staff has failed them in teaching them how to play defense.

It's obvious that CPP isn't going to turn this team around, and into world beaters in 4 days. I dont care if we had Anthony Grant or even Dean Smith on the sidelines. It's going to take some time, some practices, and some games before CPP can get what he wants going.

Listen, I'm about as realistic as a basketball fan can be and I know a lot about this team, players and program. Hell, I didn't miss a home game in 6 years before this year. I'm not going to say that we can have a winning record or anything in SEC play, but I do think that by the time SECT time gets here, we will see what CPP really has. We'll see if he can prepare these guys for when it really counts and maybe we can make a run like UGA did last year and somehow get into the NCAAT.

What a story that would be and some great pub for the University and our basketball program. I'm hoping for something like this to happen, and I think that we have the athletes to do it, especially with the way the SEC is wide open. It's good that they went ahead and dropped the axe on CMG because we still have time to improve and make some progress.

I believe...I'm not giving up.

Roll Tide. Give 'em Hell!

It was sickening at times to watch how slowly and lethargically we got back on defense or just moved our feet. These kids, especially our starters, are in for a reckoning if we do the right thing and hire a coach who has higher expectations. What would Bobby Knight do to this team?

On a side note, it was nice to see that our new coach was willing to pull some starters who jacked ridiculously bad shots or dogged it on defense.

This particular team will not be participating in dance activities this season.

I'm not counting on it, but did you think last year that Dave Bliss and the boys at UGA were going to? That was an incredible story...Something that I'd like to happen here.

We aren't good...but i'm optimistic on how they can finish out the year with some new blood coaching them. I'll still root for them anyways. I wont give up.

First step: Learning to put out effort when the ball is not in their hands. They run up and down the court like an over 40-league at the Y. Arkansas had such a foul advantage because they forced the action and made us play defense. Excuse me, they made us feign at playing defense. Mainly we just reached and grabbed.

This is a team that appears to care less -- the exceptions being the kids who haven't had a chance to play much before now.

Earle, I hope you're right. Maybe we'll see significant improvement with tougher love and a greater appreciation for fundamental basketball. But I think it will be harder than that. First, we'll find out who wants really wants to be on a team that consistently plays hard.

Just as a side note, Coach Pearson either asked or Coach Saban took it upon himself, I'm not really sure which, but either way, Coach Saban spoke to basketball team yesterday as a part of the teams post practice meeting.
