fair weather fans in the world. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were on top of the college basketball world and marginal fans were coming out of the woodwork, jumping on the bandwagon. Now, after going 3-4 over our last 7 games, we're ready to fire the coach and start all over again.

Listen gang, the SEC is one tough basketball conference. Have you looked at the polls lately? There are 5 teams in this week's ESPN coaches' poll, two of which are in the top 10. Even the barn is pushing hard for a spot in the same poll so that means there are 6 out of 12 SEC teams among the top 27 teams in the country. Couple this with the fact that out of all games played in SEC basketball arenas, there have been only 16 games won by visiting teams on SEC courts. That means it's tough to win on the road.

So what is my point? We play basketball in a very tough conference and we're going to lose a few games. Hey, even Duke has lost its last two games so it happens to the best of teams.

What BAMA needs right now is some LOYAL fan support. We need to support our team. We need to attend the games. It's a shame that we didn't have a sellout until January. Those of you who live in Alabama need to attend the games and support the team. Those of us outside the great state of Alabama need to go to the games that we can. I have already purchased tickets to the Tennessee game in February, and I am trying to make plans to attend the SEC Tournament in New Orleans.

Do we have a right to grumble when our team plays lousy? Of course we do. But calling for our coach's job is not the answer. Coach Gottfried has brought our program a long way in five short years so we don't need to run him off. Let's show our support by attending the games and yelling as loudly as we can. Let's help our team out of its rut by showing undying support. I will do the same from North Carolina.

Thank you for reading to my rant.

I totally agree with you BF61. I won't pretend like I haven't bashed CMG a couple times in the last few weeks, but I think we've all questioned the players and coaches in a desperate search for a clear answer as to what is wrong. I'm not inside the huddle or practices so I can't say exactly who is to blame, but I still feel an obligation to support my team. My pet peeve is "fans" who love Bama football, but then cheer their hearts out for the Dukies or Tar Heels come basketball season. Why do people do this? Because it is convenient to cheer for a winner. Though those fairweather UNC fans are not quite as visible now...why? Because it is convenient to cheer for a winner, and the program is currently rebuilding. There is only one college athletic team I cheer for continuously, and that is Alabama. I support all the sports, win or lose, and can only hope others share my passion. Now this year I have attended every football game and the last three road basketball games (yes, I am very aware that we lost all three). By saying this, I am not looking for a congratulations, but I say it to make a point. Losses aren't fun, but at least there were Bama fans there to see them. As I sat at Ole Miss Tuesday, I was glad that I went despite the horrible cold I picked up and the awful drubbing we took. I was proud to see the other Bama fans that sacrificed to support our Tide. I feel an obligation to support this team, and I hope everyone else here can feel this same way...whether we win or lose!

If the BB program wants to develop a more solid fan base, it must learn to win road games. If we beat KY at home, then lose to them on the road, what does that mean? That we are as good as them on a neutral court? Hardly! This team, under this coach, has never been able to win big games away from home on a consistent basis. That is what is required to win a NC in this sport.

Bama has a great home team, but a very average team in any other venue. Those are the facts. I am not a fair-weather fan, but I am not blind. This team has absolutely no chance of winning a NC. I will still watch (when I can - which is rare in NY) and pull for the Tide, but I cannot ignore a real problem.

So we should only be fans when they win, but when they loose should moan gripe & whine & quit watching, quit going to the games, quit supporting the team. Or maybe just be a fan when they play at home, but on away games pull for Duke.

Hey NY, here are some facts for you to chew:

2001 NIT - BAMA win at Purdue
2001 NIT semis - BAMA win
2002 vs. KY - BAMA win in Rupp Arena
2002 vs lswho - BAMA win
2002 vs jawga - BAMA win
2002 vs South Carolina - BAMA win
2002 vs OK in NY - BAMA win
2002 Tip-Off Classic vs Ohio State - BAMA win

Yes, we have lost some frustrating road games and games on neutral courts. My point is that we are getting better at winning the big games away from home. If we put as much energy into our basketball team as we do for our football team, we can build a championship team. Rome was not built in a day, and our b-ball program will not be built overnight. Give Gottfried some time. After we win a national championship, our fickle fan base will have to take back some of the things they said about him.

Please don't take this as a flame. I share your frustrations with our performance away from Coleman. I'm only pointing out some facts that show things are getting better, but are still a long way from where they should be.

Look, I agree that fans should support their team at all times. My point was that Bama fans are jaded because of the success of our football program. That translates to the need to develop into a championship caliber team in another sports to attract those fans.

Look at the baseball program. Every year, Bama has a contending team that falls just short of the mark - a national championship. Every year, the fans see it, smell it, even taste it, and Bama comes up short. That fans become frustrated by that type of pattern is to be expected. Win a championship or two and the fan base will stabilize. Support will solidify.

Frustrated fans are still fans. The programs need to elevate their level of play to meet the expectations of those fans every once in a while if they expect the frustration levels to drop - and the resulting critiques.

Hey NYBF, I did not want to seem like I was flaming you, but it gets frustrating when seems that when Bama does play well, nobody hardly says anything, but when they play bad this board has so many people on it, bashing them left & right, it is hard to even come on here.
Right now we are playing bad & people are frustrated, but I think me & many other or more so frustrated with the fan, that only shows up when things aren't going right, more than the team of late.

Remember the movie Bambi......"If you can't say nothing nice, then don't say anything at all"...Thumper

Yes I know this is a free world & we do have this board to talk about X's & O's & about the team...which I do love CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, but not getting mad & letting words fly, bashing this team & the coaches.
Instead of yelling "Off with his(CMG) head"...Why don't people try & break down the game & try a little constructive criticism.

I been to every home game except one, I been excited since last year. However they look bad
these days and like I said if they look that bad against UK then someone else can have my tickets I know this sounds like fair-weather fan but I'll still be a fan, still listen on the radio I am just not going to T-Town to see a bad team play. I'll make sure someone else takes my place but why should I go if they are playing bad.

Know what I mean. I don't have to attend the game to be a fan. If I don't enjoy seeing them play then I am not going. If I lived in T-Town then I might

Mannish, if that haooens, but I don't think it will, feel free to send whatever tickets you have my way.
I don't understan why no one supports the team until they are supposed to be good and then they bash tem if they don't win every game. This is basketball, and teams are going to lose. We have won every neutral court game this year, and we will win some road games, too, before it is all over. When is the last time we have won at Cow College or Ole Miss. Neither and we won the conference.
I believe I will try to be more positive on here since the bashing is getting out of control.
We need more Meade and Rambo on Saturday to win. Once the rotation is settled(soon I hope) we will be fine.

Someone needs to do a study of South Carolina fans to find out why they support their football and basketball teams so well. They have never won anything and I believe they have only been to a bowl game maybe once or twice, yet they pack their stadium and arena and support their team ever game.
Fair weather fans disgust me. I'm not talking about people who are upset about the way a team plays or effort by players. I'm talking about people who throw in the towel on a season that still has over 10 games left.

I think everyone wants to get excited about our basketball team but its the way we play. i might be wrong but i dont see any set plays on offense and i get fustrated with CMG and the team. I mean we got so much talent so thats not the excuse why weve lost games lately. I personally think our ranking at the begginning of the year got to everyones head on the team and CMG. I dont speak for bama fans in general but i hate get excited about playing a big game like at the begginning of the year and now we cant win the games we should. alot of bama fans preach respect but if we dont deserve it we shouldnt get it like we got it at the first of the year only to get everybodys hopes up for the season only now to be let down like we are. i hope we pull threw this slump but with the way CMP's teams have played lately i dont see it. i just dont think the erwin dudley's come every recruitig season or a mo williams. thats just my .02

It does not matter if Bama wins or looses...I still LOVE this team & this School. I enjoy going to Coleman & being in the stadium. I love to watch these guys & I love to wear my Crimson & White on game days. If Bama did not win a game this year I will still yell my *** off at every game & wear my B'Ball T-Shirt with pride.....Why?? It is bigger than W's & L's...it's LOVE for the game, LOVE for the young men who put on that Crimson Jersey, & LOVE for the University of Alabama. Yes I get upset when we loose, but you can't dwell on it, you got to move on & get pumped up for the next game & get ready to yell you *** off again!RTR!

Now lets go put on some Crimson body paint, go to the game & show them @#%$ Wildcats that this our house, & that this is University Of Alabama!!(NO CATS ALLOWED)
