I hear this argument all the time and people are missing the point when they say “if these games don’t countâ€Â. No one is saying they don’t count or you can just ignore them. We are simply saying you can’t JUST look at one game and make the decision based solely on that. There are so many other factors that have to come into play and you have to look at the entire season overall. There’s not a single team in this country that would have a resume as good as Bama’s if they win out, period.
1) You don't know that.
You think Georgia wouldn't be undefeated with our schedule?
2) Alabama fans LOVE to say the following things -
but only when it's convenient:
a) but we were undefeated and Notre Dame had a tie (1966) - schedule doesn't matter
b) but we beat Ole Miss and Notre Dame didn't (1977) - resume doesn't matter (seriously - compare RESUMES and come back and tell me Alabama should have won that)
c) head to head counts except when it doesn't (1978 and apparently 2023)
If Alabama had beaten Texas by 10 points IN AUSTIN, not a single fan here would be trying to invent ways to get around inconvenient truths like head-to-head football games. It would be "well, we settled who was better on the field." NOT ONE FAN here saying, "But that game was in September" would be using that EXCUSE - and that's all it is - if the situation was reversed.
What's funny is the "well, if we played again, we'd beat Texas" coming from THE EXACT SAME FANS who say Georgia beating us in a rematch in 2021 shouldn't count "because we had players hurt."
It seems the excuses are just pulled out as they needed, which is why you either win or accept the consequences of losing.
