we need to beat notre dame thursday night. that will be a huge win for the program. we will have 3 "quality" wins if we win thursday. iowa, xavier, and notre dame.

Re: Bama #5 in the new USAtoday/ESPN polls

is that a serious question?

if it is, i think he really likes us. i know he listed our frontcourt as one of the top 5 in the nation. i have heard him talk about steele on numerous occasions.

Congratz on making to no.4/5. Hopefully our boys will make us pround in South Bend. This game scares me a little but we don't deserve to be the number 4 team in the country if we cant go up to Notre Dame and win. That is not a slap at Notre Dame but rather being very weary of the number 4 ranking. Bama has proved to be tough on a neutral court and now it is time to prove it is dangerous on the road. Roll Tide Roll!

exactly right big bama. we need to prove to everyone we are worthy of the number 4/5 ranking and we can win on the road. this game and the game later versus nc state in raliegh will test this team.

I've had a bit of an absence from the board lately, but I agree that our win in South Bend is absolutely critical to this season. There is no doubt that we can, and should, win the game, but with it being our first real test on the road(neutral site excluded), it could set the tone for other games on the road down the stretch. Congrats to the team on cracking the top 5, and here's to making us proud as we keep climbing to the pinnacle of college basketball!:BigA:

Bama as High as Fourth in Latest Polls
The University of Alabama basketball team has climbed into the nation’s Top 5 in both major collegiate basketball polls released on Monday.

Alabama is No. 4 in the Associated Press rankings and No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. The last time Alabama was ranked among the Top 5 in the AP poll was when it was ranked No. 4 in the January 6, 2003 AP rankings. It has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation, for two straight weeks, in the December 23, 2002 and December 30, 2002 AP rankings.

Gee, I wish I could be happy about being ranked so high so early, but it just doesn't seem to have worked out for us in the past. I hope it does this time. Anyway, BB ratings are pretty irrelevant this early in the season. Late in the season, they matter some in March...

I think with our schedule and IF we keep playing well we have a good chance to have a very good record going into SEC play. I have really enjoyed watching this team play, and I look forward to seeing them grow and mesh as the season progresses.

While I agree with your point, I'm glad that we are getting the notoriety early in the season as opposed to years past where we had to scratch and claw our way up the rankings. If we can go undefeated in non-conference play(a reasonable goal), and go into January high in the rankings, it will serve us well come March. Thursday will tell us a lot about this team though.
