I know Kobe very well. To say he is one of the best young men I have met would be an understatement. I think he will do great at Baylor.

Who is actually going to school for the education? We've already seen from last year how easy it is to leave a school and enroll in another long after drop/add. I get what you are saying, B1G, and if this is done maybe, just maybe the regular student body might rise up and say "enough is enough." Who am I kidding, though? My whole beef with all of this is how unfair it is to the rest of the students at a school. The courts really did not think this through.

I'm kind of pessimistic to everything that is going on right now so honestly I wouldn't be shocked to find out that players aren't even going to class and that everything is optional through some kind of proxy.

But those would just be regular academic students so who cares amirite?

Nothing matters except these entitled toddlers who have everything given to them on a golden platter because they can run faster and jump higher than regular folks.

I'm really over all of it.

Let's just drop the entire charade and call it what it is....

There already is. NIL deals cannot be tired to a specific school. But we know it’s happening. There’s no way to enforce it because the SCOTUS said amateur sports is illegal.

Regardless, it would be easy enough for a contract to include personal appearances, etc. that would essentially require the player to be at a particular school.

I actually like the idea of Mbakwe having the ball in his hands. Remember he was a QB in HS, who was likely the best athlete on his team, which won the state championship in 6A, IIRC.

The guy is a dynamic playmaker. Give him the ball in space and see what happens? Could be a win/win!

Not an attorney either, but I wouldn't think that preventing NIL deals from being tied to playing for a specific school would be problematic. It's not preventing a player from earning off their name, image and likeness. State Farm pays Derrick Henry regardless whether he plays for the Titans or Ravens. Bryce Young was paid by Dr. Pepper not because he played for Alabama, but because he was Bryce Young. That's how these deals should be done, and let the schools handle the pay for play under some salary cap structure.

No not at all. I’m currently going through this in my career actually. My point with Jalen was he already knew the money and offer to play both ways, he could have went to the Bama coaches for the counter without actually entering the portal. I’m sure they would have taken him seriously in this current climate.

While we all know that tampering exists (and we do know that OleMiss talked to him or his agent), what you suggest is a violation of NCAA rules and he could’ve lost his eligibility (highly unlikely in the current environment, but there is a risk of that).

Yes, I've been preaching this since day one.

But how it should be done versus how it is being done is the same thing as why we have locks on doors.

The reality is NIL is being used to coerce players to play at specific schools - this is widely known, so I know you know this. The point is we already clearly see there are lots of people who couldn't care less about the rules (or the 'spirit of the rules') and will leverage so-called NIL as pay-for-play.

My point is simply this - NIL will be abused regardless as to a CBA, salary, contracts, etc. Some people simply don't play by the established rules.

Again, why we have locks on doors.

Suggesting a ban on tying NIL to playing for a specific school is nice, but unrealistic. It's already against the rules and we know it's happening.

The SMU coach had a good idea - move the portal date back, but make sure that it takes place before spring practices begin. Then, if there has to be a second portal window, have it take place after the spring games, but before the summer practice schedules begin. It would work better for everyone. The only problem - it ignores the academic calendar.

There really isn’t an issue with classes though as universities have all sorts of class schedules. I have seen people say they need to have the portal close so the players can get in classes for the spring semester in January which isn’t true. Alabama like every other school I know of has spring classes that start in February on a 12 week schedule and even some schools have 8 and even 4 week class schedule. That is why you can push it back for the schools that are still playing in playoffs or late bowl game. The player can just enroll in a short session spring class that starts later that is what Downs and others did after Saban left.

Alabama has spring classes that don’t start til February 10th and some schools even offer 8 week semester courses that start after spring break, so the idea someone has to be enrolled in classes right when the semester starts is false. Common theme then.....I remember having a business simulation class with a presentation at the end of the semester in front of the entire business board of the school......I had a rugby player and a basketball player in my group.

I'll just say one of them thanked me after for the A.

That entire situation was me stressing out trying my best to pull them up so it didn't hurt my grade.

That was 25 years ago......I can imagine with all the entitlement now its much worse.....much much worse. Especially with big time athletes at big schools.

The problem is there really cannot be any rule preventing a player from making money based off of their name, image, or likeness, so while you can set up contracts, etc., enticements to play for more money will always be there for those willing to skirt the spirit of the rule in order to buy players.

Really, unless / until the transfer portal is fixed there's nothing to stop the continued destruction of the sport.

You'd lock the players into a contract with a specific school's collective to a salary/duration. That is like being signed by an NFL team. Then you can make however much you want extra for NIL through sponsors. This would mean dropping the charade that the collectives are actually just NIL only.

with as many WRs as we have in the portal, we might not have a choice but to START him there for the bowl game.

I did not know about short session classes as that wasn't available when I was in college many years ago. If that is the case, I stand corrected. However, one of my peeves is players get paid and get all of these extra benefits that a regular student does not. Imagine a regular student demanding an SUV with a driver to and from classes. *insert major eyeroll here* It's really difficult for me to explain here as none of us can see each other face to face and it takes much too long to type out. Personally, and none of it matters, I think there should be some sort of cap or something. You are recruited to play for School A. If you do such and such you will make as much as $50,000 this year. If you stay at School A and accomplish such and such you will increase to $100,000 the next year. These multimillion dollar paydays are ridiculous. Not directed at you @Bpilktree. All of this is just a little frustrating to me.

I watched Mbakwe play QB his senior year of high school, and I was more impressed with him at QB than I have ever been with Milroe at QB.

In the article I posted in this thread, it was said that there should only be one transfer portal period each year and that portal period should be arbitrarily, April 1 - May 31. That lets the team get through spring practice and those that want to enter the portal have two months leading up to the end of the semester to either stay or go. This would solve the transferring period in December that leads up to the CFP and bowl games. Just an opinion..

...and only 1 transfer...period!😎
