Bama Players Transferring (catch all thread)

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

It isn't tampering if it is allowed. The lack of oversight and rules and regulations has made CFB unenjoyable for so many. I'm glad the young man is getting paid but this model isn't sustainable. When the fans stop caring and the money isn't flowing...

If you knew giving him all that money so early in life would end up ruining his life, would you be glad he got paid? The NIL hasn't been around long enough to do a study or docuseries, but I imagine once it has it will have it's equivalent of "The lottery ruined my life".

Do we really expect this to ever happen?

Let's be honest: for the "casuals" (as the kids call them these days) who work their butts off all week and plop down on the sofa on Saturday to watch their favorite college team, NIL shenanigans and transfer portal chaos don't matter. Like most of you, I am fortunate in that I have the time, energy, and willingness to devote to reading up on this stuff, and while I (again, like most of you) am sick and tired of how the sport has seemingly become defined by these elements, most fans don't know and don't care. They just want to watch the Tide roll on the tube, occasionally make it to a game (likely against an G5/FCS opponent due to affordability), sport their selected merch, and crow to friends after big wins.

At the end of the day, casual fans still make up the vast majority of fanbases, and the true power players behind the collectives that fuel this wild-west, NFL-lite, mercenary system will keep doing it because that's where they seem to derive their value and enjoyment in our lovely free enterprise system.

While not about our current portal, here is an article about Isiah "Business Decision" Bond and how Texas has not gotten their money's worth out of him. In hindsight Isiah, it was a bad business decision.

Sure was a bad business decision for him. He stood out with us in a way that he hasn’t with the shorthorns.

We all have free will. Being broke and living in poverty comes with its own unique issues and plights.

If you were so inclined to study a similar situation, look no further to the NBA who allowed 18 year olds to be drafted for decades. Some players were left with nothing but great memories and bankruptcy and others built generational wealth for themselves and their families.

Will most of us quit watching games? Absolutely not.

Will people not shove their hard earned money into buying a pay for play one and done jersey? Absolutely

A great example is the LANK situation. At first many viewed it as a positive and some went out and purchased merchandise. Once the word got out that it was causing internal turmoil and negativity around the players who were utilizing it got out, I don't think you could have payed some folks around here to wear that mess...

I don't think we have to study it, we all know the majority end up broke and many times worse off than they started. The college version of it will just be more of them that end up that way...

I agree. So what is your solution to the issue?

If I get paid and go to the casino and blow my whole paycheck at the end of the day that is on me. I can't get behind a system where we are protecting people from their own money. My only solution would be for major colleges to have financial literacy programs and staff similar to what they have for mental coaches currently. I'm sure we are only a year or two away from seeing these type of people on campus.

Could go either way right now.

Definitely more than rumor but we will see what it comes to. Wouldn't worry about it til anything official happens...just because why worry.
Yeah, I only posted because the insiders on another sight called it "very likely" a this point. But its a new world and things do seem to change quickly

There's no current solution, I just don't celebrate it.
