While I don't disagree those losses were detrimental, we made fun of UT for years for saving "If Colt didn't get hurt."

We can't have it both ways.

It's a little different bc Texas didn't beat us with Colt that year. If they had, they'd have every right to say that. We already saw what happened vs Georgia when those 2 were healthy.

Georgia, Tenn and Texas are playoff bound and have 22 total players in the portal.
I expect that number to increase when those teams are eliminated from the playoffs or after the season is officially over for their respected schools.

Yeah but here’s the thing - portal closes before the quarterfinals. Georgia will not even play until then and both UTs are likely to win so they will have more to play.

I havent seen any exceptions the dec 28th window for playoff teams. Do you know if there is one. There was one in the past but I haven't been able to find that information.

And yea I expect that there will be a run to the portal from teams that lose round 1 since there will still be time.

Portal hits everyone and gies both ways. You can't build anything like what saban had but you can still build a very good team, just not as deep.

Players on playoff teams get 5 days after their team's last game if their team's is still playing when it ends. I've heard them say it on ESPN a few times.

Glad you mentioned depth. The new 105 limit, along with re-making a team each year, is going to make for some crappy football going forward.

I’m fine with just letting everyone leave who doesn’t want to be here for whatever reason.

But our HC has shown he will kowtow to ridiculous demands so I expect we’ll continue to match demand for demand going forward.

Me I’d rather have a team of nothing but 3 stars who want to be here and work for it.

I’d take a HC with that mentality too.

At some point all this constant movement is going to affect player development for the next level.

How often have we heard that NFL teams like Bama players or GA players etc because of how well they've been coached and developed during their college career?

My guess would be that if that happens before some appropriate guardrails are instituted at the college level, the NFL may get involved to protect their product.

You wouldn't be employed long at schools like Alabama because odds are if you fill your team with 3 star players you'd be lucky to go 7-5 each year. Life is about leverage and negotiation. When you have leverage you don't need to negotiate. When you don't have leverage you better be able to negotiate. Right now the coaches do not have the leverage they once had.

Sure, they can be Billy Joe Bad Britches and tell every four and five star player who wants to negotiate to hit the road and go fill his team full of 2 and 3* players. But he won't be coaching at an elite program like Alabama because schools like Alabama aren't going to tolerate 7-5 seasons as the norm.

Yep, even Burton who would later become very reliable dropped easy catches that would have changed the outcome of that game.
