Bama Game Thread: Bama PostGame Thread - Bama vs. OU...

I really detest offensive coordinators. They all want to be identified as an offensive genius.
An old coach tells me every minute spent in practice on gadget plays steals time on fundamentals.
I think I would rather see us work on identifying line stunts, blitz pickups (especially up the middle), and just blocking assignments.
On the upside our gadget plays look pretty good, and we have a lot of them.

P.S. Stop calling RB screens. Our screens are about the worst I've ever seen

Honestly I think kiffin might be the best offensive mind since Bill Walsh but even he has those moments where he believes so much into something that he loses track of the game. I think however where he separates from all the others is that he is constantly looking for a weakness to exploit in game and is not usually too committed towards running a bad game plan

Geez! Some of y’all need to back away from the ledge!
It’s nowhere near time to ax CKD. It’s no time to trash Ty. IMO the pick 6 wasn’t entirely on him. Horton was arm hooked, and not called, on that play which disrupted the route. Hell, at least he attempted to right the wrong by making honest effort to tackle on the play, as opposed to an obvious business decision whiff by the QB last year. We have serious O-line issues and due to the lack of push near nil in the run game production.
ROLL TIDE!!!
Anybody who is talking about firing Coach DeBoer is silly.
It may be time to move on the the o-line coach, however. This may not be entirely his fault, but the o-line has underperformed in multiple years and maybe a change in regime will help them get their act together.

Part of the problem is that DeBoer likes fast athletic offensive linemen and we are stuck with big unathletic linemen. The other part is that we don’t use the running backs that could potentially lighten the issue because they don’t pass block well. There has been credible information that our best running back is Dear but he absolutely would get a quarterback killed with his blocking ability. So I’m not entirely sure if a coaching change would solve the issues that we are dealing with.

I think the person who said that we are 1-2 years away from DeBoer having his offense in place was correct.

The game tonight had no semblance to the FSU loss, especially on defense
Why does everybody keep saying "but that was different"? A loss is a loss. There aren't different categories of losses. The point is, we are extremely beatable. I'm just a tad disillusioned that we are still the best team in all of college football and we can take back over anytime we want. Well, anytime Bama wants to "take back over" will be fine with me. Call me cynical, but I don't think that time is coming

I actually believe that CKD is the right guy and was the best hire among those attainable at the time.

Now, with that, who thinks we can upgrade now knowing we lose the whole staff, reopening the roster to poaching and transfers for 30 days, and sacrificing a current top 3 recruiting class? Are you really willing to put our program through that again a mere 2 years after enduring it?

I personally think staff wise were are in a pretty good spot. Having watched a fair amount of football this fall alot of teams are struggling with OL play and teams heavily invested in DL talent. This tells me there are more quality DL floating around than there are OL and that available OL talent is spread very thin across college football.

Our OL is the biggest holdover from the Saban era. We are going to have to rebuild it through recruiting and the portal. And we know it's broken. And CKD and Grubb are learning what we need to compete in the SEC.

Knowing the rosters at Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, Penn State, among others are open, I believe we are playing with house money to get better, and quickly.

I also believe we need to get creative about where we shop for players. I think we should be holding tryouts for older prospects who have remaining eligibility. I think we should develop a practice squad out of our 105 man roster where you develop some of these type prospects. Who out there was a UDFA with remaining eligibility?

I think we need a new OL coach, a new RB coach, and we need to hit the portal hard for more talented, more athletic OL. It also wouldn't hurt to get a speedster at RB who has the ability to take it to the house from anywhere on the field.

Assume they get there this team will not get in the playoffs if they lose the SEC game, and winning that game ain't likely. Too many two loss teams to consider. One could be Oklahoma. SEC only got three teams in last year, but this year it will probably be four. SEC performance last year was not stellar. The SEC is not the dominant conference it was pre NIL for some reason or another. It is competitive among itself, which does make the season interesting.

We have that Speedster in Dear but he can’t block.

We for sure need and a new OL Coach and maybe also a new RB Coach.

Imo we need to send RW packing and use those funds to get the best OL we can immediately after the season.

We are in desperate need of better OL and ones that fit this scheme better and RW is an easy replacement.

Everyone who says “send RW packing to build up money to pay for X” are going to be the same people complaining when he goes to a Kiffin led team or some other big school and just goes insane.

RW has had an up and down year but he is still one of the most talented receivers in the SEC. Our offensive line is going to be a 2-3 year fix. Going all in on the portal isn’t going to suddenly solve our issues at that position.

Who do you listen to that says this nonsense?

Losses are not all the same.

The portal is a band aid, not the answer.

Teams like Alabama should recruit, develop, and retain elite offensive line talent. The portal should only be for depth and the unlikely event that evaluations were incorrect.

60% of the line are transfers (Center, both guards at times), and the players at tackle struggle consistently.

Something has to be done, but it’s obvious they won’t do it until the offseason.

Kiffin also just happens to be a really good QB coach

Not me.

He makes a decent play every now and then but for how much NIL he gets paid and the mistakes he’s made all year he’s a net negative affect on the team for me.

I can’t even tell that he likes or wants to play football.

He crumbles like a piece of paper when he gets touched.

Plays way smaller than he is so in the end the talent doesn’t mean a thing.

We’d just have to get any somewhat sure handed WR that can take a hit and or not get manhandled off their route for a reasonable NIL amount and that would be much smarter roster management.

If Lane or anyone else thinks they can get a SEC level WR out of him then good luck.

I think you can leap over the line, what you cannot do is use your own player or the other team's player as leverage to do so.
Beating the dead horse but… player had to have been lined up within a yard of the LoS for his jump to have been legal. He was lined up in the gap behind the D-line so even if he jumped without touching anyone it was not legal. Venables seems to have adopted a NASCAR strategy- if you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t trying hard enough, it’s only illegal if you get caught.

No, you cannot-

No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent.

It is a foul if a defensive player moves forward and tries to block a field goal or try by leaving his feet and leaping into the plane directly above the frame of the body of an opponent.

I admit Ty Simpson & our offense had our moments, chances too win this game, buttttt, The Sooner's pretty much manhandled our offense & imposed their will on us on defense choking us out..

Just like against FSU, I thought we simply had bad game planning from the start, with even worse effort against Oklahoma, you simply can't play from behind against a defensive minded HC like Venables..

I may get blasted & thought our coaching staff laid another egg, against another quality opponent & that's becoming a trend under this coaching staff..

We're a one trick pony type of offense..
No I agree with this. Oklahoma basically played bend don’t break defense. Also, I blame the loss largely on turnovers but you can’t take away credit from Oklahoma for forcing them.

I’m in a weird headspace. I’m frustrated with the offenses lack of killer instinct. We had 3 big possessions in the game that could have taken the lead and failed to get points on all three. We’re obviously one dimensional which puts pressure on Ty; although there was some hope from Daniel Hill yesterday. I don’t really like Grubs game plans. Also, I think we may be making poor or no halftime adjustments based on second half performance.

So, the weird headspace is with the changes in the game and the 9 conference games coming, I don’t think anyone can do much better overall. Obviously we have to fix the offensive line and running game, but there’s too much talent spread around everywhere now to be running the table unless you have a joke schedule like the other conferences. I think it’s the new normal.
