I can't figure out why we were ranked so low, especially with Philon coming back. I wonder if anyone will notice we just beat #5 and the gap between the teams was noticeable. I think any knowledgeable neutral observer would conclude the score would have been lopsided, with all those gift FTs SJ was awarded...

I don’t have an issue with us being around 15 prior to the season. Never know how the incoming guys would be - most didn’t put up stellar numbers at their old schools. I’m imagining that’ll change now though.

One of my biggest take aways from the bball game yesterday was that even though the officiating was lopsided the team did not get flustered and let it get in their heads. This team is already mentally tough.
Our guards are scary and the bigs are gonna be an asset.
Should be a fun season.

I watched some of Pitino’s post game presser last night. My take on what he said: our guards are freakishly fast. They are hard to keep up with in the drive to the rack. SJU’s guards got suckered in to playing our hurry-up-and-shoot style of play, something Pitino had warned them against pre-game. He wanted his guards to slow down and make us play defense a little but they got in the flow of the game. I had never thought about this when someone talks about us defining the pace of play. I always thought it was more of a conditioning thing but now I see it can affect a team who doesn’t play at this pace with shooting the ball.

Our guards are the best in the nation with Holloway, Philon, Wrightsell, Mallette and Hannah. And that is without Bethea, who could add to the already outstanding mix once he comes back from injury.

I love Amari Allen. Kid does not look like or play like a freshman.
