Since the basketball team has only been able to go seven deep this year, I was wondering how well the incoming recruits for this next year would be able to contribute. I know that Yamene Coleman (being redshirted) should be able to provide some more depth inside. Can anyone tell me any information about the incoming recruits and how well they can contribute?

We've signed four players so far, three perimeter players: Verice Cloyd, Mikhail Torrance, and Justin Tubbs. All about 6'3, Torrance is a point guard I believe and the other two are 2 guards. We also signed a 6'8 210 pound inside player named Avery Jukes. Apparently were looking at maybe signing another, I've heard some about a 7'2 guy who's in the top 25 nationally out of Florida, but I don't know how much were in the mix for him.

Assuming JD stays I'd be surprised if Jukes didn't redshirt but that's without seeing him play so who knows. I have no idea what kind of player Coleman is but assuming he's allright he could give us a third big man to back up JD and RH.

I like that we've signed three perimeter guys, Felix will be gone and that would leave us with just RS, Gee, and Hollinger so I would assume that at the least one of those three guards will get some playing time next year, probably two of them will need to help us with depth if not all of them.

Apparently we signed a 5 star guard from Georgia but he'll be just a high school senior next year.

Now that I think about its not a matter of hoping some of those freshman will help us, they've got to help us.

We'll only have six players on scholarship back next year. JD, RH, Gee(who I expect big things from next year), Hollinger and Steele is a solid starting lineup be we need 8 players, that would mean probably one big guy(Coleman or Jukes) and two of the freshman guards to play.

bennett

the 7'2" kid's last name is bennett and bama is in his final 3, along with auburn and michigan. from what i've read it sounds like he has a lot of potential but will be a bit of a project on the offensive end but moves well for a big man.

Sounds like he's high rating is due to size and not basketball ability. I've heard some say that the earliest he could meaningfully contribute would be 2 yrs into a program. Sounds like a project. Given that the most recent "projects" are playing elsewhere, I would not be shocked if CMG was looking elsewhere.

the problem? Did he come to BB late, or is he just slow maturing into his size?
I don't know when he started playing basketball. I think maturing into his size is an issue...and it seems normal that it would be. Some knocks include...lack of aggressiveness (especially on offense), tends to get pushed around by smaller players, and weak offensive skills around the basket. The main positive I've heard is that he's a good shot blocker...who wouldn't be at that height? Most say he's improved virtually every year, but he's unlikely to be SEC ready early in his collegiate career.

I've not seen him play. The above description was gleaned from various sites and articles about his play. I'd be interested to know if we have any members who have actually seen him play.

As the 'Ole Coach once said: " You can't coach someone to be seven feet tall. All that other stuff can be learned." ;)

size

a lot of young kids his size have problems on the offensive end because they just aren't aggressive enough (for the exact opposite watch tyler hansborough, the freshman from unc). they are used to playing against kids who are smaller but much quicker than they are so every move they make they are always defensed. post play, no matter how tall you are is all about position. i read an article about this kid that said he is developing a turn around jumper. this kid doesn't need a turn around jumper right now. he needs to understand what his height will automatically give him once he learns about position in the low post.
