Thank you; this link answered a lot of my questions but just underlined others. As a 4-2-4 he can graduate and play next year but only starting Sept.30. This just seems bizarre to me as far as strategy. I mean, a buddy of mine who was as uninformed about the transfer rules as I was had suspected that maybe BB had nearly or enough credits for an Associate's so he'd enroll in Cali at a Juco that was on the quarter system. He'd get his degree and transfer to a school in spring to try to win a starting job in Fall with no loss of time. Maybe even able to apply for med redshirt if needed later since he only played in 1/4 of this season's games?
Now, it appears he will have to win a job somewhere while a team is forced to start a back-up for the first 3-4 games? Just don't see how this is any kind of reasonable plan. Only can speculate that he lost the locker room here at 'Bama. I know building an offense around the skills of Hurts makes Bateman a more logical "fit" as a back-up but if Jalen goes down, we'll probably be in need of a comeback win. A great passer could be the hero.
Just don't get the strategy unless he felt his team mates and coaches were writing him off anyway. Seems like a HUGE mistake.

IMO the NCAA is enabling a crop of spoiled brats who can just pick up their toys and go somewhere else when they don't get their way

No one will remember where he went to JUCO. His degree put on resumes will be that of the school which he attends next. Not sure how you think that this will hurt his future. He is a rich kid from a wealthy family. He is going to be just fine.

A semester at a juco isn't that expensive. Especially if you consider most people live close to one so they could live at home.
But now he won't be done with his juco until May, so he will miss spring practice. Is some coach going to have spring drills with his starting QB not even on campus?

Not if the JUCO is on the quarters system. Should mean he'll be able to graduate and enroll in January.

The thread was started on 9/28. We play Ole Miss on 9/30 next year. Maybe Dodd is saying he's going to OM? He would be eligible to play that game if so...

A&M is the following week. 247 said yesterday he'd already been contacted by TAMU. More logical because I'm not sure Barnett beats out Shea Patterson in Oxford.
