Question: Border crisis looming, what should be done?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I believe the border is more secure like I believe the moon is made of cheese. If they are spending all this money and resources searching for drugs they are doing a dang poor job of it.

Once again the two things aren’t the same, but our border policies and procedures have made both issues worse. That’s all I have to say about it. It’s the correct outlook. Most of the stuff you have posted doesn’t have anything to do with the initial article you posted. You are just going in circles. Peace out.

If I were you I would discount anything that does not fit my worldview, too.

Fun fact -
The number of border crossings by Chinese nationals has skyrocketed. They fly to Tijuana and pay the smugglers.
Also heard one translator who only spoke English and Spanish addressed a fair sized group of immigrants who spoke neither language, and she was asked questions in several different languages she didn’t know.
So they’re not all poor, not all gang members and definitely not all (even majority now) Mexican.

“We’ve got to take 42nd Street back,” he said. “These illegals think they own this state and rule the night. This is our country. If they can’t abide by the rules than we will kick them back from where they came.”

As he spoke, a Fox News banner blared, “MAN ARRESTED IN TIMES SQUARE AFTER GUARDIAN ANGELS APPREHEND HIM”

…..

But the person tackled by the group was neither a migrant nor arrested for shoplifting as Sliwa had claimed, New York Police Department officials confirmed to CNN.

Hannity showed this mob attack live on his show.

But remember, the charges of racism and anti-immigration are moronic. /s

As always, we have to tackle the SOURCES of the problems, but as a nation we simply love to band-aid the symptoms. Any fence, program, razor wire etc. is just band-aiding the existing problem. The migrants have already arrived at the border with no desirable, simple, easy, or safe way to return home.

The SOURCES of our border problems are economics and politics far away from our borders. We're going to have to use a carrot and stick approach plus much better dissuasion programs before they leave their home to minimize the reasons migration to remotely begin to manage the border issue. You simply cannot build a tall enough fence, thick enough fence, dangerous enough fence to stop migrants from trying to cross it. Simply put, the demand to migrate to the US is too high. This is just like drugs and drug dealers. The SOURCE of the problem is the user buying the drugs, the symptom you get is drug smuggling across the border.

Ok how do you fix political and economic problems in far away countries? I’m open to suggestions. I think you are right that the people coming are dealing with bad economics where they are. Now what is the US supposed to do about it. We have no more money to spend. We are all out. The interest on the debt just passed what we spend on defense and that number isn’t going down. Even if we have the money how are we spending so it helps?

Trump wants our economy to fail and the border to be in chaos, all for his own political gain. The GOP is willing to assist him, at the cost of our national security. The Republican Party has shown you their hand time and time again. Stop shaking it. The Lincoln Project is a leading pro-democracy organization in the United States — dedicated to the preservation, protection, and defense of democracy. Our fight against Trumpism is only beginning. We must combat these forces everywhere and at all times — our democracy depends on it.

Harris has been trying to promote more industry in the countries where the migrants are coming from. It‘s a long term solution that unfortunately will not address the immediate problem. But it is a well thought out plan/proposal in my opinion.

a CNN article by Priscilla Alvarez titled “Harris‘ mission to tackle migration root causes scores big money support but border crossings remain high” gives the details.

I'll add that the Lincoln Project is run by conservatives who aren't afraid to speak out against trump.

Undocumented immigrants are paying their taxes today, too

It’s a surprising fact that’s often overlooked in the immigration debate.

Undocumented immigrants pay billions of dollars in federal taxes annually, between tax returns filed and taxes deducted from paychecks, experts estimate.

Here’s a look at why – and how – this is happening.
I would be willing to bet that undocumented workers are paying taxes and not getting refunds because they are not filing.
I do not know this, but I suspect.

Well, we can meet and discuss sharing intel and best practices and successful examples (both ways) on gangs, drug smuggling and prevention, violence prevention, monetary policy, economic policy, trade policies, tariffs, minimum wages, childcare policies, etc., basically any number of things that help create a better living situation for their citizens, none of which cost much from the US directly. Money generally doesn't hurt, but instead if we start a conscious open public dialogue with actions coming from the discussions could in general help begin to stabilize the causes of some migration. Maybe none of it works, but I don't see how it could hurt.

And many are being paid under the table.
Then US citizens are knowingly breaking our laws, not just the immigrants. It takes two to tango in employment, and you can't just blame the immigrant alone. I never ceases to amaze me that large meat packing plants get raided, but the plant and the management never get shut down and walk away nearly every time without much of a penalty.

I'm for giving that a try. What we are doing now obviously isn't working.
