Whether you believe Abbott chose this specific plot of city-owned land for the symbolism related to what he is currently doing or not the history is interesting.

Anumber of community leaders from Eagle Pass, Texas, held a press conference on Friday to express their opposition to the 'Take Our Border Back' convoy, which is due to hold a rally near the town on Saturday.

Hitting out at Abbott, who instructed the state's national guard to place razor wire along the Texas-Mexico border, Fuentes added: "As a longtime resident... I've never been so appalled at a leader as our governor and what he's doing and how he's using our particular community for political theater."

Fuentes also criticized Texan authorities for taking over the nearby Shelby Park from which they then blocked access to federal agents, sparking controversy.

Fuentes said: "They've taken over a publicly funded park, our park, our history, our culture, that is where we convene, that is our green space, that is where we are connected to the river, and we don't have access to it. And if you take a walk and look down there, you can see that it's becoming a military base."

The liquor store, McDonalds, and WalMart are all closed on Christmas. And that’s their whole life

I’ve got an idea.
Secede Texas - tell everybody that wants out to go elsewhere, and everyone who wants to be a belligerent racist ignorant redneck to go there Pronto. Build a 50 ft wall along the Texas border with every other state
Anyone in the remaining 49 who still wants to be a BRIR, round em up and sling em over the wall into Texas.
Plenty of land and resources for the morons. We don’t need their deformed genes contaminating the gene pool of the rest of the country.

I’ve got an idea as well. How about we take California, Oregon, and Washington and do the same exact same thing with far left radicals too. I’m for the wall and everything. When the whole place falls apart and looks like a scene from Mad Max. We can market a reality tv show that will get great ratings.

just like ronnie raygun kicking off his campaign in philadelphia, ms talking about states rights. pure coincidence
That was my thought too.

And let’s not forget Trump kicked off his 2024 campaign in Waco Texas by having his first rally there..

they do stuff like that and then rub it in by claiming “oh what a coincidence”

Mayor Eric Adams’ administration will soon start handing out pre-paid credit cards to migrant families being put up in Big Apple hotels, The Post has learned.

The $53 million pilot program, run by the New Jersey company Mobility Capital Finance, will provide asylum seekers arriving at the Roosevelt Hotel with the city cash to help them buy food, according to city records.

The amount on each card will vary depending on the size of the family and whether any income is coming in, according to the details of the contract. A family of four, for instance, could be provided nearly $1,000 each month, which comes out to $35 per day for food. Cards will get refilled every 28 days.

News of the pre-paid card program comes a day after The Post revealed another $137 million in contracts with city hotels to provide more than 750 rooms to asylum seekers with families.

The city is housing just over 66,000 asylum seekers after 1,500 more arrived last week as part of a crisis that is expected to cost $10 billion through 2025.

Why not devise a plan to distribute all of them equally to every state in the country plus DC. Including Hawaii and Alaska?
Because red states will flatly refuse and angering swing states is how you lose national elections.

The House can take the bill amend it vote on it and send it back to the Senate and they will have a conference committee to hammer out a final bill both Houses can then vote on.

I find the process of "shutting down" the border in the bill to be the stupidest thing I've read in a long time. The money for barriers, agents, and judges is fine as long as the CBP agents can actually do their jobs instead of being a taxi service.

CBP agents don't seem to upset about Texas. They seem more upset about the actual issues at the border and with the Biden administration. The enforcement/shut down portion is just dumb.
