Question: Border crisis looming, what should be done?

And you are the proper judge of whose asylum claim is not fraudulent?

Because you know all the facts of each case?

And have training and experience that correlates with the job?

100% true. My wife worked as a judicial assistant for 30 years. When she retired, they had to hire not one, not two, but THREE people to replace her. And you should hear some of the horror stories she has from growing up in 1950's Texas. She told me about when she was looking for a place to live so she and her new husband could start their lives. The first place she went to, she knocked on the super's door and a black woman answered. Before she could say ONE word, the door was slammed shut in my wife's face. I'm certainly not insensitive to what Latinos and Latinas are attempting to do. In fact, if I was a business owner, you wouldn't find a single person in my employ who isn't Hispanic or Asian. But we have to pump the brakes at some point. My wife certainly agrees.
 


New Data Show Migrants Were More Likely to Be Released by Trump Than Biden


According to new data published last month, the Biden Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has removed a higher percentage of arrested border crossers in its first two years than the Trump DHS did over its last two years. Moreover, migrants were more likely to be released after a border arrest under President Trump than under President Biden.

In absolute terms, the Biden DHS is removing 3.5 times as many people per month as the Trump DHS did. These figures are important for understanding how each administration has carried out border enforcement.

During the Trump administration, DHS made 1.4 million arrests—what it calls “encounters”—in fiscal years 2019 and 2020 (24 months). Of those people arrested, only 47 percent were removed as of December 31, 2021, which includes people arrested by Trump and removed by Biden, and 52 percent were released into the United States.

Under Biden, DHS made over 5 million arrests in its first 26.3 months, and it removed nearly 2.6 million—51 percent—while releasing only 49 percent. In other words, the Trump DHS removed a minority of those arrested while the Biden DHS removed a majority. Biden managed to increase the removal share while also increasing the total removals by a factor of 3.5.

Do you see the issue with your statistic? Not saying it’s incorrect, but the underlying problem with the situation.

Just a little reminder - when a migrant arrives and claims asylum, their claim must be adjudged by an immigration judge. It cannot legally be summarily dismissed, under present law. The Biden administration has asked Congress for both more judges and more Border Patrol. We all know where that stands. As an attorney, I'm appalled by the cries for do something, even if it's illegal. BTW, 83% of immigrants show up for their hearings. The "catch and release" slogan is basically BS...

I’ve read that, as Earle says, over 80 % of the people scheduled for an immigration hearing show up. It’s not their fault the hearings are running a backlog because of underfunding.

Literally, the next 2 paragraphs:

"Without more space in border processing centers, the facilities could get overcrowded, just as they did in 2019, when migrants said they were being held in spaces too small to lie down to sleep.

They could also end up being released onto the street in border cities or bused by Republican governors to cities inside the U.S."

And there is this little tidbit further down:
"The Biden administration has long planned for the lifting of Title 42 by streamlining the asylum process, allowing Border Patrol officers to conduct interviews and quickly deporting migrants."

That tidbit contains a link to this article:

That article talks about how the Biden Admin wants to streamline the immigration process to include
"... plans to help Central Americans considering coming to the U.S. by establishing centers in those countries where would-be emigrants can receive legal information, expanding the number of temporary work visas and reducing the backlog of immigrant visas so that more people have a legal pathway to the U. S., who would otherwise enter illegally."

Why would anybody be against streamlining a process so immigrants can enter the country legally?

Not "my" statistic, but If you mean the total number...

then so what?

Can the president stop people before they get here or does he have to deal with them once they are here?

Or did you have something else in mind?

And does that negate the fact the even with higher numbers Biden admin is deporting a higher %?

Oh Brad, did you read my explanation of the law? Until there's a determination by an administrative judge, you don't know who's legal and who's illegal. And remember, 83% of them attend those hearings. The clownish antics of Abbot and DeSantis have probably lowered that, by relocating them elsewhere at great distances from where their hearings were to take place...

Why do you think the increase is so stark? Also do you think the got aways are increasing at the same level because I do?

It doesn’t negate the numbers, but Why are millions more showing up?
