Question: Braxton Miller to UA?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Is there a deadline or time span where he is expected to make a decision?
All the yak yak is kind of getting old to me.
When he says this way or that way it will be done. Until then its going to be people that dont want transfers and people that are open to it in this instance yaking. As far as a deadline IDK.

If recall correctly Coker only started one year in high school before graduating and then started none in college. To me he is a guy who has a lot of physical talent but just hasn't played much at all. Heck all.og our other quarterbacks probably have more experience than Coker taking into account their high school careers. If you look at it from that standpoint and he is marginally ahead at this point you could argue all he needs is some game time.to blossom. However you could also argue that another QB with lesser physical tools but better decision making would be the safer play.

I think they would prefer to male the competition between Coker Morris and Bateman so that Cornwell and Barnett can compete. If Cornwell makes the start now he will be difficult to get off the field without having to beat the best aka Barnett who is green and isn't physically ready. It appears Barnett has the most upside but if Cornwell wins the job now you might only get one or two years max out of Barnett. One of the upperclassmen really needs to win this job imo for roster management.

I'm not ready to write-off Coker just yet. We saw how much Sims improved in the summer and fall camps last year. I will say that if the staff feels even the slightest bit of apprehension with starting Coker, then Cornwell should most likely get the job. Coker is a 5th year Senior, and if the light hasn't come on by the end of fall camp, it's not going to.

As a fifth year senior, Jake doesn't have that luxury, Colby. If he hasn't won the job sooner than later, he's lost his chance. If half the stuff we're hearing is true, he may have lost it already.

Were there ever any reports from spring training as to observations of Cornwell working with the first O for any reasonable length of time? I can`t remember if he took any snaps with the 1`s in the spring game.

Im pretty sure he did.... I'm going to say this.. if Miller doesn't come.. then all eyes is on Coker/Cornwell.. Cornwell has the edge right now... But it's not over yet... Summer workout will be cruicial...

Yes. About the last week of practice he warmed up with the 1's. Some reports out of the second scrimmage were Cornwell got more reps with the 1's than Coker.

The problem is know one knows how accurate those reports are. Most come from media and fans who pass their opinions out of a small size of viewing. there were many reports that Coker was tied with Winston at FSU and then there were reports that he was actually leading sims til the 2nd or third scrimmage. Who really knows how accurate those reports are except CNS and CLK? From afar it is easy to assume that Coker has a slight edge, but not a sizable edge over Cornwell. But that is based on last year and the A-Day game. Alot of people keep saying Cornwell is going to be the starter because of what they saw or what they thought they saw in a limited viewing session. I will say that Cornwell's release might be the deciding factor, but we have 3.5 months to truly know that.

Hypothetically speaking; if Cornwell starts as a RS freshman this year and develops into what many on here believe to be the next 4 year starter at QB, does anybody really think Barnett will not transfer after this year?

It would be Phillip Sims all over again, and not necessarily in his best interest to transfer.

This isn't like Coker, who actually had less eligibility than Winston, Barnett, if he transfers would have to sit out a year anyway, unless he's graduated. He was an EE, so it makes much, much more sense for him to focus on his schoolwork, try to graduate early, and then and only then should he consider whether or not he'll get playing time. Quarterbacks often transfer out way too earlier, and as was the case with Phillip, he actually wanted to come back, he just would have had to wait a year.

That situation would give him two choices. Transfer next season, sit out a year, then have two years of eligibility left. Or, work on graduating, consider transferring the next year, have two years of eligibility left. Transfers sometimes become this emotional thing, in which the player more expresses their emotions, vs. actually doing what's best for them. Barnett doesn't seem the sort to do that.

If Cornwell is that good than we will have a championship QB for then next 4 years and can get another stud in 2. Also keep in mind that Barnett will be able to compete each year to get the starting job.

[h=1]OHIO STATE AD GENE SMITH: BRAXTON MILLER TOLD ME HE'S 'NOT GOING ANYWHERE'[/h]

For Gene Smith, when it comes to Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller's status as a college athlete, it's pretty simple.

"He's not going anywhere," Smith told Eleven Warriors Thursday.

Really? You don't think so? Not even with the constant rumors that he would leave his home state and school to go elsewhere where he'd be assured a starting spot?

"No. He's not going anywhere," Smith said. "Where's the rumors? He's never said that."
