I'd like to try to make myself feel better about this too, but you're reaching. Calloway is a great prospect, even though he's not game-ready at LB yet. He might have opened up another slot, but I'd be shocked if we replaced him with someone better.

This stings, and losing him to Auburn makes it a lot worse.
Not reaching at all. I was never sold on him being a LB, he is FS size (6'1"/210). IMO, I believe we would be better served with a C.J. Johnson or James Vaughters type. Again, imo.

If the guy doenst want to be here, then we dont need him. It sounds a little like he doesnt want to face the huge competition coming in. Its fine really. We have plenty of great players. Thats all Im gonna say about this

Auburn's class is starting to pick up steam. They're doing something right on the plains (and no, I'm not talking about Pay-for-play). To pull Calloway away from our staff at this points says Auburn's coaching staff is better than the credit they get.

This one is going to hurt, if nothing else, from a perceptions perspective. To lose one of our two 5-stars to Auburn after months of being committed will be tough.
you smell of cow or you're in uber-panic mode.

does it suck to lose him, yes. this will not kill our class though, as saban has showed in years past, he'll bring in someone new and that will be it. Calloway may go onto to be great, he may bust and thats the potential with every prospect. We will also wrap up this class as a top three recruiting class either way.

its stings to lose him to the cows and i hate that i must now hate him and pull for his downfall. but to act like this kills the recruiting class is an overstatement.

let's not kid ourselves here. He could be a great LB with the size he is however probably not in our system. IMO we had to try to get him being an in state high caliber prospect. I guarantee you Nick Saban is losing no sleep about this from a numbers standpoint

It just seems strange that such a big decision would be made in such a flippant way. I don't know what he's thinking or what the Barners are telling him. It may be that he truly wants to be a running back and they know he might could play for them OR they know he can't and will one day end up being a stud LB.

I'll say this. If he can be flipped this easily, it wouldn't surprise me that he'd flip again before Feb. 2.

He's the new Spencer Region.

Are you sure? This may be a "Bu$ine$$ Decision." How else does someone who's been a Bama fan for life suddenly turn to the barn-side? :conf2:

OK team..Can we not bash a kid because he changed his mind about coming here? It is what it is. If the young man thinks that another school gives him a better opportunity to play RB or LB, then more power to him. It is my understanding that because of his versatility and because of our need at the position, we wanted him as safety. Him decommitting from Bama doesn't make him any less a great prospect than he was before. I wish him all success in the world except against us. RTR

And please kill this nonsense about money. They play football at hundreds of other colleges in the country besides Alabama. If the kid wants to go somewhere that he can play the position he wants to play and play earlier then that's completely up to him. No need to slander the young man's name. It's disrespectful to him and his family.

:) Wow. The answer is neither. How in the world would my comments equal panic, much less "uber-panic." I made an observation about Auburn's recruiting class picking up steam, which it moving from in the 20s to #11 on Rivals confirms. I wasn't saying anything bad about our coaches, just that Auburn's coaches keep beating expectations.

Hahaha, nice.

Losing a 5* sucks, especially to Auburn, especially with them about to win a title, and especially when we just lost MI, JJ, and MD to the NFL. Its been a rough time for Bama fans lately and we were expecting an amazing recruiting class to build some steam in the off-season.

We will be fine. Unfortunately though, you don't replace a 5* with another 5*, so there is no telling what is going to happen in the numbers game. We lost a 5* LB and Auburn gained a 2* RB. Sometimes I really hate recruiting :). This stings much more than the KA switch.

Pretty strange considering how long he's been committed, but it's his loss not ours IMHO. I hope he enjoys mediocrity.

Re: Calloway just decommits on tv

:BigA: Is that all he had to say? No Thanks? Surely there is a little more than that! Seems like a lack of class if that is it! Whats the deal?

For those of you familiar with how recruiting really works, do you think the 'Bama coaching staff knew about Calloway's change of heart, or would this be news to them as well?

It's like asking a pretty girl on a date. She says yes, but then you see her talking to another guy, who asks her out. You hope she says "no", but if she says "yes", she's obviously not that interested in what you have to offer.

If a player isn't sold on us.....then do we really want him playing here? I'm always happy with who we end up with ..... because we know they want to play here. The rest of this stuff is garbage.
That's my opinion exactly. Give me 100% commitment or don't let the door hit you in the butt as you're leaving.

Can you please quit referring to dirty recruiting here? A mod has already asked.

I'll be the first to say that I want Vaughters more anyway at LB. He has a 4.0 GPA, he is bigger, and he is a pure LB. This guy is going to be a stud after a redshirt year. I'm always impressed with guys with high GPAs because that shows their ability to multi-task and learn. Saban's defense is very complex, being intelligent is a plus at LB. Any idea if we can get this guy?
