BREAKING Buchner to start- per reports

It's still kind of mind-boggling Milroe was even the starter to begin with, and even more mind-boggling that Ty Simpson has apparently made no progress at all. It's hard to believe we completely whiffed on both of these guys and Buchner was the backup plan from the portal. I wish we had hit the portal hard as soon as the Kansas State game was over.
The system needs to be molded to the QB’s or we whiffed on these guys.

I agree that we can’t win a championship of any kind with Milroe at QB. He can make some spectacular plays. He has a good long ball. He has great legs. But Texas laid his weaknesses bare, and every DC on the schedule will try to follow that model.

The unfixable weakness is that the plays you’d call to slow down a pass rush and loosen up a stacked box are exactly the plays he can’t consistently execute. Everybody and their brother will play 7 men up, cheat a safety and tee off on the OL like John Daly on a Titleist. USF might not have the personnel to execute that, but other opponents most certainly do.

So I do think Buchner is our best option. His history, however, is by no means perfect. I’m thinking he can run the short to middle stuff, especially over the middle of the field, and make some quick decisions. IOW, he opens up the playbook.

BUT….he’s had his own struggles with ball security. So it would appear that we have one guy who struggles with ball security and limits my play calling, vs. another guy who also struggles with ball security, but can run the full playbook.

Fully realizing it’s probably not going to be a perfect solution, I’ll take Door #2, Monte.

But Jimmy Buffett said (Steve Goodman song), “My whole world lies waiting behind door #3!”

Fair Point.

I was more referring to the fact that its very clear to me that Milroe is NEVER going to be the guy here. I'm actually not sure he would be the guy at very many programs across the country. So if that is the case, i'd rather see Simpson get that slot to improve and get better.

If we want to have a small package with Milore in it, i'm ok with that. But those need to be simply Wildcat type plays with a shot play or two built in.

IMO Milroe has not only played his way out of being a starter, he's played his way out of being the backup as well.

Looks like you may be right. From the sounds of it Ty is #2 for tomorrow

I am glad Jalen is being benched, and realize that TB is next man up. Just to caution those who have not really seen him play beyond highlights.....he was not a very effective quarterback in his opportunities at ND.. He has 6 TD and 8 Int in his career. He is a good runner and to date an erratic passer. For us to be a legit contender, TB is going to have to have taken a major leap from the past two years.

I'd love to know how we ended up in this situation

Curious to see if Buchner gets the majority of the game regardless of the score or if Simpson gets worked in some as the #2 or if Milroe is now the #2.

I’m actually kind of surprised that Buchner is starting, I figured he’d get a lot of playing time tomorrow though.

I wonder if it was a situation where they feel that Buchner was the guy all along and he’s now ready or what they saw from Milroe on film shook them so much that they had to make a change immediately?
I’m not surprised. What do you do when you see clearly the QB isn’t working out. You have one week to get timing down with the offense in a live game situation before a ranked Ole Miss comes calling.

Seems like the 2 int’s may be the end of the road for Milroe 🤔 If so I am an Alabama fan wish him well but let’s get behind Buchner, the starter and that we can get back to winning big games Roll Tide Roll.
I love Jalen but believe most of us were behind Tyler after the first INT in the froghorn game.

I don't know anything about playing QB and even I could tell that Milroe can't read the defense. Hopefully Buchner will be a little more comfortable in Rees's system and get us into more manageable down and distance.

We'll see if it was the right one or not, but there's little debate in my mind that a change HAD to be made here.

I hope Buchner tears it up. But I will say, I'm really high on the Lonergan kid. I think that dude is a straight up baller. I've watched some his HS tape and he's got nice touch on the ball, decent wheels, and he doesn't mind laying the wood to you either. There's one clip of him making the tackle after a turnover and he squares this guy up in the numbers and makes a form tackle on him that would make a linebacker proud. I would love to see him get some snaps tomorrow - for the right reasons of course, not due to poor play or injuries.

I do not know if Tyler Buchner is the answer but I do know that the issues of last Saturday have to be resolved for whoever is assigned the QB role. Time to show up and show out if you’re Buchner!

I don't think there's any chance Bama achieves its team goals for 2023 if JM continues to be the starter.

He has great athletic skills but he also has great voids in his ability to manage the offense.
I don’t know if we hit them with TB as QB. The upside I guess is experience with CTR.

Our CFP starts now meaning we can’t afford to lose from here on out.

There needed to be a change imo just to see what we have behind Milroe and if Buchner is indeed that guy that doesn’t turn the ball over in crucial situations in big games then so be it.

Regardless of whose the QB though, the OL needs to play better and I hope McLaughlin can fix his snapping issues.
he has more turnovers in his career than Milroe, something like 7% of his career passes have been intercepted. I just hope the leopard changed his spots.
