BREAKING Buchner to start- per reports

Well this is great news. Although if Buchner lights it up the rest of the season I may have a coronary over why he wasn’t the starter from the beginning haha

The move HAD to happen. Milroe's QB play is the worst QB play we've had in 20 years. And thats not just a saying. His starts are only beaten out by Brandon Avalos back in the early 2000s.

Hopefully, Buchner will play well and the team will rally around him. I'd hope to see at least 3 quarters of action much like Milroe got in game 1 to get settled in and run the offense.

I also think its best to move Milroe away from the immediate backup spot, Milore should be the 3 at best. Let Buchner not be looking over his shoulder so to speak.

Avalos and Pennington both were ROUGH afternoons. There were a couple of games where I think I was one of the few students left in the student section. I’ve never felt worse for a team than after that sc game in the rain

Our CFP starts now meaning we can’t afford to lose from here on out.

There needed to be a change imo just to see what we have behind Milroe and if Buchner is indeed that guy that doesn’t turn the ball over in crucial situations in big games then so be it.

Regardless of whose the QB though, the OL needs to play better and I hope McLaughlin can fix his snapping issues.
The weird thing with McLaughlin is that whenever he played center last year the line play improved, and he was the guy everyone was clambering for to be the starting center ahead of Dalcourt. He didn’t have these issues last year. Not sure what changed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What changed is the personnel on each side of him and trying to compensate for the lack of experience. Plus that UTe D-line is legit P-5 top tier talent.

All of that probably is true but for me it also seems like the team has ‘Anxiety’ issues still.

They played like they were on the road in a hostile environment yet they were HOME.

Just completely rattled play everywhere but WR and Kicking.

Something still isn’t right in mindset but I’m hopeful it can be corrected.

He definitely had some bad snaps last year. Allegedly he is or was dealing with an injury this year though

Also, his right hand injury... yet they still kept him at center. Hope his injury, whatever it is, gets better before next week. Without a good O line, Bama will have a long season.

The QB settles the offense down and gets them in the right mindset to compete. I don't think Milroe was doing that; the offense felt his anxiety and made it their own.

This was the biggest overall issue I think last week. His demeanor and feel for the game permeated throughout that offense. I'm sure they could see it in the huddle. Hes not that calming QB like Hurts.

I also think, if what we are hearing is true, that Milroe is #3 now.....that when the coaches watched the game film they saw how bad things were and absolutely had to make these changes.

Happy a change was made, but let's be honest- we won't know anything based on tommorrow's performance. South Florida is terrible, and we are like 34 pt favorites. Buchner will play 'well'
tommorrow just as any qb(including even milroe likely) would have against them. But let's not go around thinking that just because Buchner plays well against a terrible patsy opponent that it means anything, or it means we can expect him to play well against real competition.
Even if buchner plays well against USF tommorrow as I think everyone would expect(it is after all usf), we can't feel good about the qb spot going forward.

I get what you're saying and don't disagree with your premise but what we can tell is if he can read the defense better and check down and throw the short and intermediate routes with consistency and such.

Nothing specific, but i've heard some scuttlebutt from people close to the program............they seem to feel that TB is playing better and not trying to force passes like he did at ND.............now, he may revert back to that old form, but he may have turned the corner............we shall see. At this point, I'll have to give him the benefit of the doubt until he completely fails, which I dont feel he will. Also hopefully this will give others a chance at reps if Bama gets up by a lot of points.

Someone brought up the idea that because USF is so bad we won't know much about the QB situation today even if Buchner plays well and we win convincingly.

I can't entirely agree and here's why. Going back to MTSU, there were several passes JM threw against MTSU that I thought were poor choices and I thought (against better competition) they would have been picked. Of course he got away with it against them and a lot of people crowned him a Heisman darkhorse. Several on this board the next week were pushing back and warning those who thought JM had arrived that we need to wait to see how he'd handle a real defense like UT would bring. All week long, I had a bad feeling (although I was hopeful it wouldn't happen) that JM would struggle because of his inability to see the field and throw accurately.

So how to we watch the game to try to measure TB's abilities???

What I'll be watching for today is for our QBs to make the right reads and complete the easy throws and not force bad throws into tight windows or double or triple coverage.

To be clear, every QB that plays at a high level eventually tries risky throws into tight windows, but I think that's a privilege and right that is earned with making the right reads and easy throws first. QBs like Tua, Mac and Bryce earned the right to be able to make those type of throws.

So if TB or TS does the simple stuff today I'll feel a lot better about the position going forward.

We got bailed out by Bryce last year, without him how many wins do you think Bama would have had?
The receivers still were not getting consistently open against the horns. In some plays yes, consistently no. Same problem Bryce was facing. Running game an issue yet again this year, which puts added strain on the pass. We don’t have that magical QB that we are used to having. The guy that appears to maybe have that is a true freshman, which would get eaten alive in the SEC while getting up to speed. The lack of offensive consistency wears on the defense, because they are on the field too long. Deep into the third quarter, the BAMA D kept the offense in the game. Saban going back to the game manager McCarron type, hoping for the same results. Doesn’t help that young, unproven OC at the helm, first in long long time. No Sark, no Kiffen, etc etc. five 4 to 5 star HS QBs, none can fill the void like the last four BAMA QBs now starting in the NFL. We’ll see if this can come around, but as you can see this has some complexity.

RTR!!!!!!

You might want to go back and rewatch that game. Not only were receivers open but they bailed JM out a few times and made great catches to save an interception.

I hope they keep a Wildcat package in our offense for Milroe. He could be effective in certain situations.

Honestly, I've never liked this concept. I can only think of one time it ever worked well and the player that it worked with was Tim Tebow when Meyer used him like that when Chri Leak was the QB.

The reason I don't like it is IF JM comes in the game EVERYBODY in the stadium knows it's probably a running play OR a deep ball. If everybody knows that, so does the defense.

If TB is deemed the starter, just play him. JMO.

I think you’re spot on. I’ve noticed one of the lineman is always touching hands with Milroe, seems like reassurance or vote of confidence or something. Milroe was never cheering or challenging his teammates, being a leader. Just thought it was odd….
