Atleast He's getting his degree and stressing the importance of education to the young athletes. Far better than I suspected that he'd act like once he became an NFL player. Good on him.

Well, I am too convinced that there were shenanigans happening with his recruitment issues. And way too much evidence of same. Criminology, hunh? Does he aspire to become a politician or a lawyer after his NFL career comes to a close?

Ok he just could not attend class while in school but as a starting NFL QB there is less attention.

if you don't think this is a payback to help recruiting well so be it.

i just don't trust him or API

At his “school pride” event with more than 700 middle school students Tuesday at Memorial Stadium, Newton said he didn’t want to be a hypocrite by discussing the importance of education without a college diploma.

“For me to have my motto (be) “everyone learns and graduates” ... I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t practice what I preached,” Newton said. “So it was very big for me.”

Simply part of the marketing for the "Cam" brand, IMO

He did the same thing last year in the off season. I see no issue with someone wanting to get their degree.
Me neither. I actually think it is a good thing that they go back to work on their degrees after they get in the NFL. Beats them sitting around with the posse hanging out waiting on the first mini-camp to start.

I know we all hate what he did in 2010, but can we not all agree he's doing the right thing by going back to Auburn and getting his degree? That's very commendable.

Yeah, I dislike him as much as the next person. But, any pro athlete going back to school should be commended.

At least he's following through with a commitment to get the degree. For those kids that look up to him, I'm sure it sends a very positive message despite all the crap that went on with his recruitment process.

Separate from AU or potential NCAA improprieties, I say if a young man with millions of $$$ goes back to complete his degree then good for him.
Me neither. I actually think it is a good thing that they go back to work on their degrees after they get in the NFL. Beats them sitting around with the posse hanging out waiting on the first mini-camp to start.
This. When we lived in Indiana, there was a guy coming back to college to work on his degree. At the time, he'd been a starting free safety in the NFL for several years. Our paths crossed, & I asked him why he was working on the degree. He said, "Man, every time I go home at the end of the season, my Mama says 'I don't wanna hear nothing about no football; how are you coming on finishing that degree?" I loved it!

OK, here's the deal...if the Scamster is serious and he applies himself to that task at hand, I will render to him the respect he should receive. I just hope there aren't any taintings of the processes needed to earn that degree. No cheating, sluffing, no rewarding of passing grades just because of who and what, he is. No one taking his exams for him. How many of you here trust him or *u to do the right thing?
