My wife and I are going to the MCB and neither of us have been to Nashville before and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good places to eat either close to the stadium or on the way to or from the stadium. Thanks!

First trip to Nashville? You will love it. Great town!

I would say the Prime Cut on 2nd Avenue...but that place went under or something. A little piece of me died with that place.

Anyway, there are some good restaurants on West End Ave. around Vandy.

Ruth's Chris. Food is out of this world...and so is the bill once you are done. That is my favorite.

Houston's is good.

Just drive down West End Ave. and you'll find something. They are all good. Of course, there is Hooters and The Spaghetti Factory and Joe's Crab Shack on 2nd Avenue. That is right across the river from the stadium.

You've listed several decent places to eat. I've been to all of them in some city--been to some of them in Nashville. However, I don't know about the original poster, but when I travel I want to go to "local" places--not chains. Can anyone suggest some local places--unique to Nashville?

I gained weight when I lived there, and here's why...

To my knowledge, Gerst Haus is a Nashville original. Fat Mo's has the best hamburgers in the world. Noshville Deli is awesome - they have three sizes of sandwiches: Regular, Large, and We Dare Ya! For sushi, Ken's is good on Church St, but Virago on Division is better (and way cooler). Over by Belmont University, there's Tabouli's. Also, if you go up Woodland St from the stadium, there's several great places, including the Alley Cat and Rose Pepper. Also, Monell's is awesome downtown, as is Sole Mio (and the view's not bad, either). As for old standards, the Bound'ry is excellent and always has been (and you never know who you'll be sitting next to, since it's near Music Row) and Restaurant Zola on West End is hard to beat.

Hope this helps. Email me with questions.

Good eats

For Sunday brunch- try the Tin Angel, across the street from Houston's on West End.
For great atmospher and a really good appetizer platter- try Rippy's on Broadway- next to the GEC.
Have not tried, but been told RuSan's is one to get to on Friday night.
For really good wings, try Broadway Brew House on Broadway (also has a great selection of Draft Beer).
For late night, try Tootsie's or the Orchid Lounge- both have live acts and low PBR prices.
If you make it as far as Wedgewood, by the Nashville State Fair, stop bye Judge Bean's BBQ- really good and you bring in your own Beer!
For whole in the wall good good burgers, try Brown's Diner in 21st.
For fried pickles, there are three Sportsman's here town.
If your staying in the Franklin area, Jonathan's is a pretty cool bar.
Enjoy Nashvegas, its a great city.

If you like Greek, you need to check out Tabouli's. It's the best Greek restaraunt there. It's small, and a bit of a college restaraunt since it's basically on campus at Belmont. Great food, though.

Local Nashville Restaurants

On the stadium side of town, you can find perhaps the best eats in all of Nashville in what they call "historic East Nashville."

Cafe Margot on Woodland St has a menu that changes daily and mostly incorporates local farmers' produce in the side dishes. Probably serves the best game meat (deer, rabbit, quail, etc...) you'll find. But you can't go wrong with their traditional dishes either.

The Alleycat Lounge and Red Wagon Cafe are also on that side of town. They offer a very good brunch if you want something tasty the morning after the game. Margot has brunch too.

However, if you're looking for Nashville's local flavor, head just north of the state house in the Germantown area to try Monell's. Calling this place a meat-and-three is like saying the Sistene Chapel has a nice paint job. You'll be seated family style at one of a half dozen large tables; the food'll be brought to your table and you pass it around just like at home. If you run out of something, just ask for more -- after all, you're family. One thing though: turn off your cell phone. It's considered rude and you'll be asked to leave the restaurant -- a policy that's almost (ALMOST!) as good as the food.

There's a great wing place on 2nd Avenue...Some of the best wings in America...Also, great atomsphere and pitchers of beer...Lots of TVs to watch sports on...And, great, well-dressed servers

I can't recall the name right now, but it's hard to miss...They have a big orange sign and have an owl for a mascot...

crimson hawk knows his steak

THE STOCK YARD is the best steak this fat boy has had in a while. Went up to Nashville for the Thanksgiving holidays and on Friday night we ate at the STOCK YARD. EXCELLENT steak and service was great.

I recommend these

1. Love's Cafe on Hwy 100 for breakfast--best biscuits; it's a tradition. I loved it! Your grandparents ate there.
2. I agree Stockyard is excellent for steak and lobster or just belly up to the bar. Nice dressed clients but anything will do.
3. Near Vandy: lots of Meat and 3 Veggies type places. Haven't entered a bad one. Other very cosmopolitan type hang outs with local flavor in area.
4. Zola's on West End was wonderful-- Spanish, Euro - type. Excellent wines. Owner and wife are chefs from Spain. My kind of place! Excellent! Excellent!
5. Chain: P F Chang's is by Vandy Marriott on West End.
6. The Cool Springs exit off I-65, about 15 miles South of Nashville, as most of you are coming in--has lots of good eats some chains others not. It is a eating mecca. Fishbones (?) is my favorite at night. Also Chuck Cheese for kids.

Ok here's my input (by the way its' Loveless Cafe not Love's):

Patrick's on Division St.
Mirror on 12th Ave.
The Boundry 20th Ave.
Margot's in East Nashville off Woodland St.
Arthur's in Union Station Hotel
and if you just want a really great drive up burger Fat Mo's: 8th Ave. in Melrose area, Murfreesboro Road, Richards Road in Antioch.

I plan on hitting as many of those as I can on my trip back home. In fact, Mirror has a New Year's Eve dinner with seatings at 5:30, 7 and 9:30. I have reservations at 7:00. $45 per person, 3 courses, etc.

I know there are some other great places that were mentioned but those are among my favorites especially Patricks.

Demos' Steak and Spaghetti House, one block over from 2nd ave., Rippy's on Broadway, they have pretty good ribs. The Palm, across from the arena, very nice, and pricy. Jimmy Kelly's Steakhouse, a personal fav!!, it is on Louise Ave., just off Elliston Place, ask for Arthur as your server. Hope this helps!! :biga:
