Bama Game Thread: CFP Selection Show details (12p-4p EST ESPN): Times, where to watch; Selection show 'game thread'

It’s embarrassing to miss the playoffs.
It’s embarrassing to lose to Vandy and OU.
It’s embarrassing to hear other fanbases justifiably mock us.
I’d much rather be embarrassed in the playoffs than going to a supposed “means nothing” bowl game ‘cuz WE ARE ALABAMA!
If you can’t see and admit JM is the main contributor to this year’s failures then you’re in denial.
Yeah, the defense was the main contributor to the Vandy loss but when OU rattled him HE WAS DONE. UGA did the same to him in the 2nd half of that game too. We were lucky to squeak that one out.

The problem with the Vandy loss, if the offense hits their stride and scores early, gets a lead, you take Vandy out of their run game. Thats how Tennessee beat them handily. Make Pavia a passer and he’s just average, make him a triple option guy, and he is deadly

Texas basically played as easy an SEC schedule as you can...and get the same but reverse loactions next year....and lost the only 2 tough SEC games they played
There was some luck in that as well. Lagway missed the game vs Florida. The way he played, they were a different team with him at QB.

Yeah, but the defense couldn’t get off the field on 3rd downs. TOP was 2-1. No effective adjustments, Pavia had one of his best games ever that day.

The team as a whole failed together as a team. That's how I look at it. Like I said they will learn from this and apply lesson learned to ensure this doesnt happen again.

Jalen was capable of running through holes if there were any. We couldn't do anything right in that game from either side of the ball. His pathetic attempt at a tackle after a pic should have had him benched.

I still say the Georgia and the LSU games were the worse things that could happen to this team. Not enough leadership, too undisciplined to handle that much success

Excerpt from article said:
When asked by ESPN about the decision to put the Mustangs in the field over the Crimson Tide, CFP chairman Warde Manuel explained the committee's reasoning.

"We looked at the number of wins that Alabama had against ranked opponents. We looked at SMU’s schedule and they were undefeated in conference, their losses were to ranked teams. But we also looked at Alabama’s loss to unranked teams. And it was quite a debate. I mean, we value strength of schedule, that’s why Alabama as a three-loss team is ranked ahead of other teams that have two losses. It is something that we talk about quite a bit.

"But in the balance of it, in the way SMU played in that game (against Clemson), losing on the last-second field goal. Great win by Clemson, great game. We just felt that in this particular case, SMU still had the nod at 10 above Alabama. But it’s no disrespect to Alabama’s strength of schedule. It’s merely looking at the entire body of work for both teams."

I can live with this. :)

He’s always been rattled when the pressure is high.

If he’s not turning the ball over he’s doing things like crossing the LOS and then throwing the ball.

He stops being able to even make simple 1st and 2nd reads and his mechanics do him no favors.

He was panicking and all over the place vs Tenn too.

His incompletions were so wildly inaccurate it’s like he had the yips.

He’s only as good as bad defenses misplay him.

I hope he goes 1st-2nd round to get him into his next chapter but there is no way he’ll be a starting QB.

He’s never shown being able to consistently make the right reads in college or make throws in tight windows at all levels.

NFL GM’s are just chronically bone headed with QB draft pics.

Teams take by flyers all the time every year that never pan out.

As ridiculous as the 12-team field is, the brackets are every bit as bad. The 8, 9, 1 is loaded while some brackets may as well be a second bye. IMO this could be seen coming from the minute the 12-team playoff format was set but not many screamed about how the automatic qualifiers from cream cake conferences could screw it up. Well, we all know now and as Coach Saban said today they need to learn from their mistakes and get the 12 best period.

You also have to remember that the 12 team playoff was decided when we had a p5 conference format, and Oregon and Washington hadn’t made their jump yet. The thought was that conference champs from the major conferences would fill 4 spots and a G5 would fill the final one. But now the B1G and SEC have effectively made a 3.5 conference format in which you really need to reduce the number down to either 3 or 4 over 5.

Nope.

This explanation works if Clemson was actually a top ten team.

South Carolina beat Clemson just last week. Georgia destroyed them in week 1. Thus additional data in favor of the SEC/Alabama.

How come college basketball can figure this out?

The basketball selection committee doesn't put out the 68 teams every week
