Bama Game Thread: CFP Selection Show details (12p-4p EST ESPN): Times, where to watch; Selection show 'game thread'

But here is the thing… I brought up PSU repeatedly. No one could explain why they were a top 10 team. Nor did they really care that they were. Same with Texas. But when you bring up SMU or Indiana the issue becomes more heated.

I think 5 AQs are too much and are probably the biggest issue. Move it to 3 or 4 and you probably going to make most people happy.
The AQs are certainly an issue but it kind of masks the underlying issue of not properly parsing, or even going over the data. You mention PSU this year, well Oregon was their darling last year. Weak SoS but they were the top one loss team all the way to the final rankings. Based on nothing but their opinion.

I was waiting for this to update and it finally did, now I still think there should be a human element but here's a computer composite:

We can argue a bit over the rankings (Georgia and Oregon too low, ND too high), but you can see Penn State is pushed down a bit, and Boise State, Arizona State and Clemson are out. We need a bit of this logic to make sense of stuff, otherwise it will just be the luck of an easy schedule that is the biggest factor in making a playoff.

No way SMU is ahead of Clemson.
This is one of many problems with this garbage - smh was not going to be "punished" by playing an extra game. They have a terrible resume and sos and had one opportunity to get in aq - all they proved is they are worse than the 15th 17th team, and could not beat a ranked team...understanding that latter point applies to more than them.

we get all of that, but like Nick said, why make it harder on yourself? It’s not SoS, it’s W/L. Schedule real easy OOC so you don’t get beat up mentally before the conference schedule
If I’m Byrne, I’m signing a deal tomorrow to play OOC games yearly with Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Samford, and UNA every year for the next 15 years. The heck with playing Ohio State, Florida State, FSU etc. You’re exposing yourself to unnecessary losses.

Here’s a thought. Whatever precedent this committee set is out the window next year. A whole new committee with a whole new idea will be in place next year.

good lord...ASU with a bye...and Boise....is this what we asked for?? nope....

Surely this is not what the top conferences had in mind, nor tv, nor bowls, these selections are garbage. big 10 should be happy, but I think this will blow up for the sec, our conference is not like a whiny acc from last season. expect this has to make waves over quality of conferences and sos

I mean even in the SEC there are huge issues. Georgia and Alabama both played an insane schedule compared to Texas and Ole Miss. we were very close to an Ole Miss vs Texas SEC title match.

I think a universal scheduling format is needed across college football and probably expanded schedules to account for the two super conferences.

This the argument that the committee made by putting SMU in. We shouldn’t schedule only FCS schools. But we can schedule the likes of southern miss, maryland, ucla, and pacific

I've felt that way for years. The prior 2 seasons we played Texas and I kept asking "Why?" Losing to Texas almost cost us a playoff spot last season. We had no business this season going up to Wisconsin.

I would want to see movement in other direction, keep sec a top notch quality league with quality schedules, and step away from this playoff farce

I dont think Sankey wants to know the results of a straw poll on his status as SEC Commissioner today...

Like I said last night I’ve made peace with it.

In a way this is satisfying, because Sankey/the SEC brought this on themselves. In case anyone isn’t aware, I’m not a Sankey fan.

As for the team, let any defections happen and happene quickly, and let’s get on with 2025.

The fans (especially those of us who are knowledgeable about the game) are the customers and we're often right more often than analysts and even NFL executives/coaching.

No way that I'll look at someone who is not good at his job and call him spectacular.

And if that makes me and my "takes" stupid (according to you), then so be it.
The committee just named you the one seed in the “National Condescending Tournament.”
