Just parusing the comments, running off at the typewriter...
I see where many of you watch the Steeldogs with some interest, and don't blame you. As a member of a city with a young NFL franchise, an AF2 franchise in the Tomcats, and college athletics at UNF, UF, FSU, and UM all within easy drive time, I can tell you the one group who is not fan friendly is the NFL.
Now I realize the NFL is a business, and is ran with profitability in mind, but the Arena leagues are much more fan oriented. And I realize they are trying to woo customers, as they don't have the huge television contracts of the NFL, or even Notre Dame!, but it certainly doesn't cost you an arm and a leg for the entertainment value, either.
If they don't "sell out" the stadium, the NFL games are blacked out locally, which really is a stupid thing since the tv contracts are what pay the majority of the player and personnel salries, and the contracts are based on viewership, etc... I mean wait until the Superbowl comes down here in '05. IF I can afford the tickets, I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on any. That game has become so much of a status symbol, it nearly eclipses the accomplishments on the field. ESPECIALLY if you're the looser! Yet every time I turn around, some form of tax is being raised and often it goes to the stadium renovations required by the NFL for the Superbowl I'm not going to get to attend!
Renovations... the ceremonial shovel was brought out to the field of the old Gator Bowl right after Alabama beat UNC 24-10 on 12/31/93. Before the first preseason game was played by the Jaguars, the old stadium had been razed, and Alltell now stands where it was.
Many of the players on the Jaguars team are truly civic minded, and give of their time to help w/ local charities, and so on. However many of the larger name individuals will keep themselves from ever being true superstars, often because of their me first attitudes, and a complete lack of discipline off the field. It seems they've come to the belief they're above the law, as have many of the professional athletes across the board. I believe they should be paid well for what they do, I mean, the owners and league are making MILLIONS, and no one comes to watch the player personnell man deciding which formula to use for salry cap protection, but come on!!!
Enjoy the Arena Leagues. They're alot like the old ABA... lots of offense, accessability to the average fan, and people who are playing because they want to.
All that said, Humphry woud be a STELLAR addition to CMS's staff. I'm quite sure the Steeldogs owners have a contingency plan.

Ya'll have that elephant size day, and Roll Tide.
