Link: Coach Rodney Garner to UT (rumor out of volnation)

It seems pretty clear that Garner is headed to Tennessee, IMO.

It may very well help us out with Massie, but CB Branden Smith has already went on the record saying that Garner leaving would not affect his recruit any. He said the only thing that would affect it would be a head coach change.

Bottom line, Smith is UGA bound either way, but it may very well help us with Massie.

"However, Smith is particularly close to UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner, who is talking to Tennessee about a position on its coaching staff. Smith confirmed to the AJC on Saturday night that he had heard about Tennessee’s flirtation with Garner, but said he needed to learn more before commenting."

According to Scout.com recruiting analyst Chad Simmons, he spoke with Smith late last night, and he said that if Garner left, it would not change anything for him.

I hope it does hurt UGA's chances with him, mind you, because many feel we are his second choice, but I just don't think it will happen.

Still, though, this is UGA's recruiting coordinator we are talking about here, potentially leaving for another SEC East powerhouse program. Any time that happens, it has to hurt recruiting, no two ways about it. Hopefully this will help swing Massie in our direction. I don't think it will hurt them too much with him just because of Searels staying at UGA, but it sure as heck doesn't do anything to help him.

Had Searels gone to All-Barn I would have bet the house on Massie signing with Alabama. I don't think Garner going to UcheaT will influence Massie one way or the other. JMHO. :)

Wow, 500k for a lb coach? Now we know why UT cut out the complimentary hotdog meal for ushers. They need al the money they can scrap togather to pay thier new football staff.

DC = $1M
DL Coach = $900K
LB Coach = $ 500K

Does any other school in America come CLOSE to paying their assistants that much?

Well I hope they don't equalize, because that much money for position coaches or DCs is simply ridiculous.

I'll be curious to see how much criticism UcheaT gets in the national media for "changing the landscape" for what universities pay assistant football coaches.

I got so sick of hearing the negative press Alabama got for CNS's contract.

Wow, For this kind of money why would any assistant coach leave and take a head coaching job at a smaller school for less money when you can make 500k to 1 mil and let someone else take the heat?

Do you recall just a few years ago when the utters called on the tax payers to bail the university out of financial problems?

Looks like they may have to start using their "road kill" law to acquire meat for the athletes!!

Garner's staying put:
Georgia assistant coach Rodney Garner will remain with the Bulldogs after interviewing at Tennessee on Saturday, Georgia announced Monday.

Garner, who is the Bulldogs' recruiting coordinator and widely regarded as one of the best recruiters in the country, turned down an offer that approached $400,000 from UT.

"In the final analysis the positives at Georgia were the determining factor," Garner said in a release. "My heart is coaching on the defensive side of the ball."
