Heard through the grapevine that Coach Saban was up in my old stomping grounds in Monroe. I heard he made a pitstop to talk to Ouachita High School TE Tyler Edwards and his coach John Carr and then headed to Rayville to talk with their standout athlete Chris Tolliver. He finished up at Bastrop with a meeting with Brad Bradshaw who has a very good and talented team making a run toward another State Championship. I don't have a clue who he is looking at there but this team has got some players and knocked off my former high school from the play-offs.

Way to go Coach Saban. NE LA is a hotbed for talent and I would love for Alabama to get in the mix up there and start really competing against LSU, who has a strenglehold on the the area.

He went by Edwards' home for a few hours last night as well. I imagine Saban is trying to stay friends with Bastrop's coach considering they always have good teams.

Edwards said he's talked to Miles recently too.

"I brought it up and asked him if he was really going to Michigan," Edwards said. "He said, 'Tyler, to tell you the truth, I plan to stay here for many years. I love it here. I love the town; I love the coaches. If you came here, I'd be your only coach.'"
I wonder if ESPN will call Les Miles a liar and a fraud if he goes to Michigan.

I'm not sure if this is true or just a rumor but I also heard that he spent all day Monday in Foley. Sorry if someone else has already posted it but it makes me excited to know as long as Julio is talking with us he can't talk with any one else.

I have heard this. The log for N1UA shows that someone was in Gulf Shores/Foley most of the day Monday. I read somewhere that CNS was with Julio Monday.

But he still told him if he came to LSU HE would be his only coach.

Bingo.

But from the perspective of the Edwards' family, Miles clearly staked himself out. If he leaves, I'm not sure they'll spend much time reparsing his phrasing.

More such awkward conversations to come. LSU recruiting is in the proverbial garlic press.

I don't see how coaches can say some of this stuff with a straight face. Maybe he had his fingers crossed behind his back. Or Tyler didn't hear the closing statement:

"....unless UM calls me".

Not a bad idea to stay close to this program. Brad has done an amazing job in turning this program around although he caught alot of flack because of the handling of the players who came up after Katrina. Saban has probably got quite a few school from NE LA on speed dial.

Louisiana boast of having a fence up and keeping all the top talent. CNS knows where a hole in that fence is. As long as he's at Bama, he's gonna raid La for top tier talent. Not saying he will get all of them, but he will get some. Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida had better watch it, cuz Saban is gonna get some of their top players to go along with THE top players in Alabama every year. Thats a key cog in building a championship team, fill it up with TOP players. And so far, he's doing a dang good job of it, IMO.

Miles isn't Saban (he isn't as large a figure), so this will be just another job swap to ESPN. It is good news that we have a HC that draws headlines. That type of HC also draws recruits...

Remember, this is the recruit quoting what he HEARD Miles say. The actual quote might have been something like, "If you come in under me at LSU, I'll be your only coach while you're there."

Now, the loophole in a statement like I made up is that any recruit coming in next year (under Miles) would be AFTER the Michigan job is filled. In other words, he could have (in an indirect manner) made a statment with the meaning that "If I haven't left for Michigan by the time you come to LSU, I won't be going anywhere else."
