Coaching carousel 2025-26

How exactly are they promising him $25 million extra to spend on players when any money beyond rev share is supposed to be for endorsement deals and not pay 4 play? Supposedly the enforcement committee is turning down more deals than they accept, so how is LSU just able to openly tell everyone they're giving Kiffin $25M extra for pay 4 play? You're supposed to have to.prove it's not pay 4 play, but not sure how they can prove that when they're openly advertising it like this.

So I’m guessing six years at $15 million annually? With an NIlL kicker of $25 million?

The price of “college football Texas Hold’em” just got stupid….
The season isn't even over yet, and 2 coaches have already been hired, and one of those coaches is actively coaching a team in the playoff hunt. This feels very wrong.

From movie “Bang the Drum Slowly” the players would play a card game to “sucker people in” and take their money. It was called “TEGWAR” - The Exciting Game Without Any Rules

NIL comes along - TEGWAR

Unrestricted Transfers/Portal -TEGWAR

Eligibility Extensions - TEGWAR

Now when it comes to poaching coaches -TEGWAR

When the last person that actually cares about intercollegiate sports leaves the room, please empty the trash cans and turn out the lights.

Btw - the more things change, the more they stay the same...

1) LSU was supposedly going to hire Kiffin - in 2016.
2) Arkansas was supposedly going to hire Gus - in 2017.
3) Saban was going to coach somewhere besides Alabama every year post-2010.
4) Florida is looking for "the next Spurrier" having gone 1-for-6 in the process.
5) the head coach at Texas is supposed to be an offensive genius but he's underachieving

The rumored contract from LSU is 7 years and $13 million for Kiffin.

All of those current coaches with “top five coaches salary” clauses in your move to the front of the line please….

Sounds like ole Miss is trying to match the offer?

Saw one this morning that said Dabo was in serious talks with Arkansas.

Wish I could be more positive about CKD. We had big problems on offense and little has been done to fix them. I get that we'll lose occasional games to playoff caliber teams, I even get the loss to FSU, I don't get why we did nothing to improve our ability to run the ball. Any extension we give him should be offset by a lreduction in the buyout.

You can't fix the kind of problems causing our running game issues in just one season. He's had one full recruiting class. That's it. One.
You have to give a coach bare minimum 3 full recruiting classes.

Precisely the summary the SEC writer dude on Finebaum's show made today (Friday).

I don't recall his name, but he asserted Lane will sign with LSU immediately upon ending the Egg Bowl.

Though I was certain it would be Florida, I found his argument to be compelling.
Can you imagine leaving a team before the playoffs?

Can you imagine leaving a team before the playoffs?

But why does anyone think this leopard ever changed his spots?

I'm sorry, folks, I've NEVER gotten the Kiffin love or the idea he's some sort of offensive guru.

Alabama Offensive PPG
2010: 35.7 (Shark Porn)
2011: 34.8 (Shark Porn)
2012: 38.7 (Nussmeier)
2013: 38.2 (Nussmeier)
2014: 36.9 (Kiffin)
2015: 35.1 (Kiffin)
2016: 38.8 (Kiffin mostly)
2017: 37.1 (Dabol)
2018: 45.6 (Locksley) - third among all teams
2019: 47.2 (Sark)
2020: 48.5 (Sark)
2021: 39.9 (O'Brien) - 6th among all teams
2022: 41.1 (O'Brien) - 4th

Now....SOMEBODY show me the so-called "offensive genius" here, please.....and how it's Kiffin......

SURE, the 2016 number is the highest, but remember a few things:
a) the ranking was 16th overall in 2016, but the much lower number in 2011 was 20th, so it's not THAT much
b) those are not OFFENSIVE PPG, they are TEAM PPG and thus include TDs scored by the defense and special teams.
c) the 2017 team (with fewer NOTs) was actually 15th overall and thus higher.

And I think we all remember that the 2016 team scored FIFTEEN NOTs in 15 games, which would drive down the points numbers on the OFFENSE. That defense was so good that Alabama would have been bowl eligible had their offense not gained a single yard all season. (of course you'd have to account for fatigue so it wouldn't work that way).

yes, I know the objection: "but the offensive misses a time on the field if the defense scores." True.

But again - how does that turn Kiffin into an OFFENSIVE genius?

If you go by dry stats, Bill O'Brien is a better OC than Kiffin is, and everyone wanted him gone. O'Brien ranks better both compared to all teams AND by ppg. Sure, O'Brien had a better QB, but I'm not sure how that makes Kiffin some sort of guru, either. Most teams nowadays have pretty good QBs.

I just have never seen anything that suggests this guy is the next Bill Walsh as an OC, and his character flaws give me considerable pause of ever wanting him to coach at the University of Alabama.

ETA: before it even becomes necessary to say, NO, Bill O'Brien is not a better OC than Kiffin. But Kiffin is also not the light years better that his reputation among fans suggests, either.
