Coaching carousel 2025-26

I don't buy it. I think the chance of CKD leaving Bama for Penn State is close to zero. When I keep reading these kinds of articles I have to question if there are really any serious discussions going on with some of these candidates. I'm beginning to think it's just some sportswriter fantasizing about who they'd like to see as the next PSU coach.
it’s click-bait

the more people fall for it, the more of it there is generated

Doesn't CKD have something like a $53m buyout? I don't see state penn paying that for a coach that struggles with the small games.
If Bama was to fire CKD, he would be owed 90% of his remaining contract, roughly $50-55 million. However, if CKD were to leave to take another job, he can buyout of his contract for about $4 million.

Still, CKD leaving for any job less than two years in to his time at Alabama is pie in the sky stuff.

CKD is not leaving Alabama for a job in the northeast.
Especially not when we have a reasonably good chance of getting to the playoff. If he'd be a hot coaching candidate for somewhere else it means someone must have a hot tip that we're going to lose to Auburn. Also, I think if CKD would go somewhere else after only two seasons it would almost be the same as saying " I can't coach in the SEC because it's just too tough". I don't think he wants anyone to get that impression of him and I think for him to leave he'd have to be fired. There would be some coaches elsewhere willing to walk to Tuscaloosa for a chance to be the HC at Alabama. Anywhere else would be a step down.

There is zero percent chance DeBoer leaves for State Pen. That said, if he did happen to leave for State Pen because the pressure got to be too much, then he's not who we thought he was anyways, so it would offset itself.

Bottom line is this: yeah we can talk about all the weird crap and shenanigans that happens in Jordan Hare when we play there. But much of that had to do with US and not them.

Auburn sits at 4-6 with a likely win over Mercer tomorrow. They should be 5-6 overall with a 1-6 conference record. If we go down there a week from tomorrow night and lose, we don’t deserve to be anywhere but the Pop Tarts Bowl. And everyone on this team should be staring in the mirror for hours asking themselves how they this slip through their fingers.

Edit: my point being, this team and CKD has it “all in front of them”. Every rumor about CKD has the caveat “but if they lose to Auburn, that opens the door”. Seriously? If a 9-2 Bama and CKD lose to the Barn at 5-6, with playoffs on the line, then by golly a bunch of questions need to be asked. And it ain’t about who is opening “what door”.

If CKD goes, he goes. It’s still an attractive job. I hope we don’t give him a raise!
Highly doubt it'll happen, but I'd be pretty upset if we let him walk (even if he lost the Iron Bowl). That would set the program back 3-4 years, and there's a good chance we'd lose Keelon Russell, and maybe even Ryan Williams. We'd also probably have a mass exodus from our current #2 recruiting class. He has earned more time with the way he has recruited. The results will come once he gets all his guys in. If that's what it takes, I say give him enough of a raise to keep him happy.

I don't think it matters if we get a good hire and the NIL is right for the players. Due to board policy I'm not even going to to touch upon his sideline interviews and his expressions on the sideline. The guy can coach, but I'm gonna need more than 9-3 and barely making the playoffs.
