I haven't seen anything about this. JaMarcus Shephard Is to be Oregon St's new head coach. He's taking a few Bama people with him, Eron Hodges, Mitch Dahle, and Torrey Gill.

I’m going to do this ONE last time because a lot of people have said it for weeks now.

1) Don’t act like a complete donkey when you are told “you no longer work here, good luck on your future endeavors, and bye”. The second he accepted the LSU job there was zero chance he would ever be able to coach the next game. No sensible and respectable organization would ever allow a rival coach to coach potentially another month and the better part of two signing windows.

He should have just left, said thank you, and good luck. But lane had to extend the confrontation another 24 hours over it, and then threaten the Ole Miss staff about future opportunities. Seriously as we are speaking Ole Miss is having to promote analysts to on field positions because of that stunt.

2) He could’ve not trolled Ole Miss with his son wearing LSU swag during games once speculation. He then decided to use his dog’s twitter account to post crap that implied he was staying. He should’ve gone dark in this regard because you get hope and expectations up amongst fans and admins. This was the same crap he pulled when leaving Tennessee.

3) He put a deadline and slow played the hell out of it. It’s bad enough that it’s on the same day as “the game” and the iron bowl but are you seriously going to tell me that his mind wasn’t made up at 4 pm yesterday? What it amounted to was that Lane wanted this to be all about him and you had Marty Smith there all day with the caption “lane kiffin decision imminent”. This decision was made by Friday and Saturday was all about Lane soaking up a whole day of news that took away from rivalry Saturday. Had he announced earlier in the day then it wouldn’t have been as bad but he let this drag until Sunday morning and by then everyone knew his decision before any announcement.

More or less he should’ve not let this become a damn circus of his own making and thought more about the kids and fans involved. Because now whatever goodwill and “turn around” story is over. Everyone in the country now sees him like Al Davis saw him and now sees him like he was when he arrived at USC in 2010.

No one blames him for taking the job. They might disagree on the decision but taking the lsu job over ole Miss is understandable. How he did it is an entirely different matter.

Yep. Ole Miss is not the first SEC team that Lane has quit on. That is what Lane did, he quit on Ole Miss and their players.

And yes, NCAA needs to do something about but will they? They have to ban school from talking to coaches who are still under contract, during the season.

I think most are administrative positions going with him and lower level guys getting upgrades to his regime. It’s going to be tough job for him and I hope him the best because he is cool dude. I wish we could have kept him another year but I’m more surprised that he stayed 2 years as a Co OC.

Yes it is quitting on his team. The job would be available in the off-season. All Kiffin has to do was communicate with LSU through his agent that he was interested in the job and they would talk in the off-season. I guarantee you, LSU would have waited. LSU is a punk for pursing a coach during a playoff run, and Kiffin is a punk for allowing to happen in the first place. If you can not see it, then I do not know what else to say.

As for Saban, he is not infalliable to giving bad advice. I do believe Saban gave bad advice. It happens.

TBF I think LSU had 2 names in mind and they were kiffin and Sumrall. I doubt that they would’ve waited until Monday for Kiffin so I do think Kiffin had to decide this weekend.

I don’t think so but it’s possible. I don’t see Kiffin as a Saban or harbaugh rock star hire in which you wait to get the one guy you really need. Especially when you are risking an early signing day and massive February fallout if you wait. Kiffin is way too unpredictable in what he will and won’t do. Sumrall was never going to survive this weekend with Florida missing out on kiffin and Drink off their board. I think at that point LSU would’ve seriously be hoping an unexpected coach be available or would have settled with a guy that no one really wanted from the G5.

Then we have no idea what Sark will do either. So if Texas comes available a job at LSU is far less attractive. I think the plan was force Kiffin to respond and unload on Sumrall if he says no. I don’t think LSU was waiting another three weeks to find out what Kiffin wanted to do. But maybe they had assurances but then again trusting Kiffin with a secret deal with LSU is like trusting Michael Scott with a secret.
