Give him a month to hang around players and recruits and coaches convincing them all to go with him…which is exactly what would have happened.I understand all the arguments against Kiffin coaching Ole Miss in the playoffs, but is it cutting off your nose to spite your face, in a sense? No one knows the personnel and offense better than Kiffin. By not allowing him to coach, you are pretty much guaranteeing you won't host a playoff game.
And what coach gives that team the best chance to win? Does anyone really believe it's Pete Golding?
He hadn’t done much at Ole Miss yet at that point so not as much buzz around him?So if LSU was this smitten with Kiffin, why did they not go after him when they hired Kelly?
To be fair, Urban & tOSU both knew immediately they wanted him to take over. It was almost presented as if, "If we don't go ahead and promote him, he'll leave to be HC elsewhere."IIRC, when Urban Meyer retired tOSU promoted Ryan Day from OC to HC. That hasn't worked out too bad.
Lane, is that you?
1st- LSU is only good because Nick Saban set the expectations that they should be good. Before that they were a second to third tier program.
2nd:
NFL Today gets it!
Kiffin had better lace up his booties and get busy. If he doesn't win a NC at LSU in 4 years, he'll be back on the coaching carousel...only not as popular as he is now.
THIS is solid gold![Cowher] doubled and tripled down on Kiffin this morning.
Been there, done that with Fran Tarkenton.I used to draw Chuck Yeager’s blood. We had a saying.
“The difference in God and Chuck Yeager is that God will not tell you he is Chuck Yeager.”
IMO, there are no parallels between the Saban-to-Alabama and Kiffin-to-LSU moves. In fact, there were complete contrasts in the important matters.I applaud Lane for getting sober and taking steps to improve his relationship with his family. I actually believe he has trouble deciding what to do. I just think he could’ve handled the things differently.
However, when we got CNS, we were on a wild ride with him. The media forced him into saying he wasn’t taking the Bama job and then roasted him when he did. Fast forward to 2023, he’s doing the Pat McAfee show during the season. Something some people here, including myself, couldn’t believe. I think CNS was on the way out and plans were in place for him to land at ESPN.
I wish Lane no ill will.
