With the season just days away, an updated look at the ESPN top 25 college football rankings heading into a historic 2024 kickoff.

Just days away from the kickoff of a historic 2024 college football season marked by conference realignment and the expanded playoff, ESPN has revealed its top 25 college football rankings, and as expected, it's a lot of the SEC and Big Ten at the top of the Week 1 poll.

Football Power Index (FPI) college football rankings and computer prediction model are a measure of team strength that predicts a team’s future performance, simulating games 20,000 times and ranking teams by a projected point margin per game against perceived average opponents on a neutral field.

Personally, I think the FPI is nonsense. It has us ranked the same as the AP and Coaches' preseason polls, so this is not an issue of being biased against Alabama, I just think whatever data goes into making this poll is atrocious. The final FPI rankings had Penn St. at #5 and Washington at #12. In what world does that make sense? 8-5 USC was top 20. Plus, how does a computer poll derived from statistical data even have a preseason poll.
