No matter how much better we are at the QB position this year than last, the offense really wasn't the problem against Vandy last year.
The defense completely blew it in that game.
The defense screwed the pooch for sure, but the O was not good either.
INT returned for a TD.
Fumble on a short field that led to a TD.
take just one away and we probably squeak out a win.
Aside from those, the bigger, broader problem the 24 team had was that we lived and died on the big play. The longest, most time consuming drive we had was 3:41 and 7 plays and we had multiple drives that were 3-4 plays and out with zero consistency. Vandy more than DOUBLED our time of possession. Our offense had ZERO ability to hold the ball to play keep away from a hot offense.
If we hold the ball longer and start to flip TOP, on just 1 or 2 drives, we have a much better chance by maybe limiting one possession, and the D doesn't get gassed by having to play over 42 minutes of a 60 minute game.
Contrast that with this season against UGA and we had two 14 play drives that each consumed over 6:30 and we didn't have to punt until the end of the 3rd quarter on our only drive that was 3/out. We only had one other drive under 2 minutes, and that's when we were in hurry up leading to the score before half.
