Alabama: Could you even imagine Curt Cignetti at Alabama?

Not to be a downer, but if what we see on the field next season isn't significantly better than what we just had, then maybe the boosters should break the bank and throw an offer at him. Why not? It doesn't hurt to at least inquire.

If Alabama is, as repeatedly stated in this thread, less financially backed than Indiana, how would it be possible to far outspend Indiana on the $12+ million annually that Cignetti is making there?

I’m guessing that it is not possible, and that a guy like Cignetti is not interested anyway. Both of his kids are doctors, his family has generational money, and he has shown that he can win nattys at Indiana while sticking it to all the schools that shunned him. And he has complete authority to run that program anyway he pleases.

Want to know the way to dominate a sport with less money needed? Probably gonna tick some people off, but the way to do that is to pull money from football and overspend on basketball. A 13 man roster and five man coaching staff is way, way cheaper to top level spend on.

I think those Saban-like days still apply in most ways. Lots of teams have big budgets but only a few of those big budget teams with great coaches succeed at a very high rate.

Hell, it might even be better now: Indiana just won a national championship with a pretty small budget. They’ll have a big budget going forward, but made two straight CFPs and won a natty with a below average budget in their own conference!

Is there a team pre-NIL that won it all with below average financial resources like they just did?

Let's put it in simple terms, we can't even close out the 2027 QB because of lack of funds. Mark my words, Alabama Football is now an afterthought. We have 10 -15 other programs that are millions of miles ahead of us in NIL. Utah, Indiana, South Florida, SMU, Texas Tech and now LSU. These are just the lesser programs. OSU, Michigan, Oregon, Miami, Texas, TAM, etc.

It's a sad state of affairs. Doug and Tripp are the biggest goofballs on the planet. It kind of reminds me of post Bryant growing up. Until we get a "Saban" business guy who understands how the world works now, it's not looking good for the home team.

I read a while back that Indiana has the largest living alumni base in the country.
