The Crimson Tide plated two runs in the seventh to break the deadlock

4/15/2025

TUSCALOOSA, AL –
Two seventh-inning runs were enough to push No. 15 Alabama baseball to a 5-3 win over UAB on Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The victory was the Crimson Tide's 11th-consecutive victory in a midweek battle, improving Alabama to 30-8 on the spring.

The Tide used six pitchers in the low-scoring affair, with Bobby Alcock making his ninth start of 2025. The right-hander worked 3.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run, while walking two and recording two punchouts. After UAB tied the contest in the seventh inning, Aeden Finateri (2-0), JT Blackwood and Carson Ozmer each worked scoreless innings, with Finateri and Ozmer striking out two men each.

Garrett Staton and Brennen Norton led the Crimson Tide offense, each working a 2-for-3 line. Both men hit home runs, with Norton's coming in the fifth and Staton's being a go-ahead blast in the seventh. Richie Bonomolo Jr. was 1-for-4 with a RBI double in the seventh, while Will Hodo and Brady Neal also contributed base knocks in the win.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn

"Not a pretty win but I told our group that I don't care if we give up one hit or 15. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what that scoreboard says at the end and that we have one more run than they do. That's what this group has done a great job of this year. When we've been elite, we've won a lot of games. And when we haven't been elite, we've found a lot of ways to get some timely hits and execute some pitches, and that's what it was today. I thought we threw the ball well in a lot of ways. Same thing offensively. We took some good swings but a lot of our at-bats were kind of uncompetitive. If this group's got one gene, it's toughness, and I'll take that all day long."

How It Happened

  • B2 | Jason Torres worked a walk to open the inning, taking second on a balk. With one out, Will Hodo poked a single through the middle of the infield to score Torres. (1-0, Alabama)
  • T3 | The Blazers leveled the score thanks to a pair of one-out singles. (1-1)
  • T5 | Two one-out walks and a wild pitch allowed the visitors to strike on a sacrifice fly. (2-1, UAB)
  • B5 | After Brady Neal singled, Brennen Norton deposited a home run into the Crimson Tide bullpen. (3-2, Alabama)
  • T7 | UAB leveled the score for a third time after a leadoff hit-by-pitch scored on a single. (3-3)
  • B7 | After Garrett Staton hit a solo homer, Norton flared a single into right. After a pitching change, Richie Bonomolo Jr. lined a double into the left-center gap, driving Norton home. (5-3, Alabama)
