Dabo continues to cry about the transfer portal

As someone who was born in 1987 and watch us lose to Florida a lot in the 90’s. It’s weird for me to see Florida be this mediocre for this long.
Not to sound like an old guy even though I am, but Florida being both generally lousy and not able to put together consecutive great seasons used to be the norm. The first time I recall watching them was the year they went 0-10-1 (1979). Five years later, they were the best team in the nation and getting pilloried for getting caught in one of those "program tail wags the dog of the university" things.

Spurrier got them going great. After the hiccup of Zook, so did Meyer. But what you're seeing now is what we used to see of the pre-1983 Florida, very erratic and not able to put it all together.

Coach Bryant warned the state was a powerhouse just waiting for the right person to come along and mine the riches of gold talent in the state. And that's back when Florida had fewer than 7 million people in the state borders (it's over 21 million now).

I'm guessing he is freaking out because his recruiting pitch of "Hey man, I get you, I know what it's like to grow up with nothin' and look how it turned out for me. Young man, our family was so poor my mom slept in the same bed with me in my dorm room until I was 22. I see it, you know what im talking about. Come to Clemson and we will take that life is unfair fire and turn you into a champion. Btw you want some McDonalds?" probably doesn't resonate in the NIL era as it used to.

Well also consider 2 things:

1) Dabo does not use the transfer portal

2) Dabo forces his recruits to commit early and if there is any talk with any other school whatsoever then Clemson pulls their offer and refuses to talk to them ever again.

Dabo is living in a fantasy world that doesn’t exist. He lucked out with two generational quarterbacks and a bunch of “will do” B listers on defense. He is an average recruiter and an average coach. But he has set himself up for failure by his ego and stubbornness. Clemson should have been set for the next decade under NIL and the transfer portal but Dabo’s stupidity got the best of him. Dabo’s run is feeling like less of the “paradigm shift” that a poster suggested and more like the Giants in the middle of the Patriots dynasty.

Coach Bryant could only dream of the way we recruit now, and that includes FL. He recruited Alabama first and then cherry-picked outside. People tend to remember the cherry-picks. I looked at the 1961 team and it was very enlightening when compared with the two-deep on this years three unit starters. The "practice squad" is made up largely of Alabamians. The FL powerhouse has benefited us greatly over the Saban years. Recruiting has gone national since Coach Bryant's days...

For those throwing the cheating accusations at Dabo, just remember, there are several former Bama players and coaches on that staff. Turnipseed, Bates, Hall, Conn, Zow, Hogan. Pearman, McCorvey. If you're accusing Dabo and his staff of cheating, that's a heck of a lot of Tide blood included.

Not a fan of Dabo, but also hate to see so many former Bama players painted with such a broad stroke.

To be honest, Coach D probably should have spent more time recruiting and less time worrying about his Pressers regarding the fairness of the PORTAL and their lack of a Milo's NIL deal for their current crop of players...... :D

You probably need to read "The System".

Just a suggestion.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the book and how recruiting works behind the scenes. Armen Keteyian did a pretty good job with that. Good read. Cheating and/or living close to the edge of it goes on all over the place in various forms and has for many decades.

I'm just not sure many realize how many former Bama players are (or were, in the case of Turnipseed) actually on staff at Clemson. I prefer not to paint that coaching staff with a broad brush. There are a couple of former Bama players not named Dabo on that staff that I wouldn't mind seeing on our sidelines. Just my opinion.

It seems foolish and self-defeating to deliberately not use the portal when your team could obviously use some help. Between him and Urban Meyer it seems coaching a team to a title can go to a fellow’s head, not in a good way.

We know the kind of man Dabo is. Whether or not the others on his staff go with the flow I don't know.

I don't know how badly they may have cheated. I don't think its any more or less than the average.

I'm more disgusted with the way their teams have played over his tenure, especially after they got good. I'm talking about the borderline dirty play and in some cases it did cross the line. Play that was obviously encouraged.
