"there's nothing wrong with punting"

Last time I check...its hard for an offense to score when you punt....

What kind of logic is that?

Yes it did

We punted. We hold UT to three and out. We get the ball back with pretty good field position and 4 minutes left. We start driving. Spencer throws and INT. Spencer not being able to throw the ball has nothing to do with that plan not working.

We punted for two reasons:

First - Our defense was playing very well and we were going to get the ball back with plenty of time left on the clock - that worked...

Second - When the defense got the ball back for us, we would have decent field position, providing the offense with another chance to win the game - that worked...

By punting, we gave ourselves another chance to win. We lost, but not because we punted. .....

It obviously went right over your head. That's probably why Coach Shula chose Coach Rader as his OC instead of you.

As opposed to points, there is something wrong with punting. We won the battle of field position, and still lost.

You miss the point - punting is an integral part of any game strategy. Because it did not win Bama this game does not mean that it has not won us games in the past or will not win us games in the future. Had we not punted and turned to ball over on downs, we would have put an offensive unit in a very difficult position when - I repeat, when - our defense held TN. Field position was critical if we were to give ourselves a chance to win.

You would risk the entire game on one play with minutes left in the game. There is a time for desperate play calls, and we were not there at that point...

If a coach chooses to punt and the defense holds, well he made the right decison. If the coach punts and the other team scores, well he is a moron. Its like arguing with a drunk, no matter what you say you lose. So T-Mac just let the dude ramble!! :biga2:

Some of you really make me want to puke.

I understand what the origin of this thread meant and I would venture a guess that the author of this thread understands how important a good "punting game" is to a football team. Special teams are 1/3 of the game. That being said, I would expect those comments more from the special teams coach than the offensive coordinator.

Now excuse me while I go read "Football for Dummies." Maybe afterwards I can have the same intelligence level and understanding of the game that some of you Einsteins obviously do.

Maybe because radar can't put points on the board?

Wonder what Coach Bryant would say about punting. Remember his first year when the quick kick was a major weapon. He had little offense and a hard nosed defense.(Does that sound familiar today). I remember a Georgia game, believe Ga was heavily favored, where the first play was an eight-yard gain and the second was a quick kick. I think he would say you use the best weapon in your arsenal. Right now, its not our offense.
