No link yet, will have soon!

This is another one from Hargrave. Solid DB with height! Committed on visit this weekend. With Ricks commitment official tomorrow morning, this will be a solid DB class with height.

Welcome aboard Mr. Mitchell!

Per BOL...

The official visit sealed the deal. Washington and Fanney had a little to do with it.

He will start out as a CB, which is great news. Will enroll in January, so he will get Spring practice in as well-- even better.

How many four and five star players has Coach Shula recruited? Anyone know? Seems to me he is getting alot of three star and belows, at least according to Rivals and other recruiting guru sites.

Man...

he's clearly lost the recruiting wars and should be fired. Bring back Dubose and Cottrell. They won those every year...

I wish that we could afford to send 2-3 commits every year to Hargrave and then get them back the next year. Fanney and Washington have become hoss's (even more than they were) and Mitchell has seen his stock soar. It is amazing what one year of conditioning can do.

oh, and I'd take 25 3 star players every year (a la S. Castille, K. Brown, DJ Hall, Lionel Mitchell, Michael Ricks, Z. Schreiber, Michael Johnson, JPW, Jimmy Barnes, Cole Harvey...ETC.)

Guys, I'm serious. I am not a serious follower of recruiting, like some of you are. I keep hearing on this site and others that Shula is "cleaning up" in state and elsewhere grabbing all of the top blue chips we are in competition for. Is that really what's happening? If so, great, but blame me if I am skeptical. I guess what I would like to hear is solid, objective opinion from one of you that follow this kind of thing very closely on how our recruiting is compared to some other heavyweights on a national scale, say, compared to Texas, OU, Nebraska, SC, and others. I have always been under the impression that Shula was committed to recruiting nationwide, and with the recruitment of Jimmy Barnes, that seems like what he is doing. But other than JB, I am not hearing of many recruits coming from any other areas other than the deep south. I would enjoy some input on this from some of you that follow recruiting closely......

We are at the top of the list for Simpson out of PA. He is ranked as one of the top RB's in the nation this year. We also have targetted a Defensive player out of Kentucky, but I cant recall his name. We are at the top of his list too. I dont consider Kentucky to be 'deep south'.

Not to mention that after our last game, alot of the top recruits in the region (and I mean TOP, #1 recruit in the country for example) are suddenly putting Bama on their lists. We may not get these players, but just the fact that we are on their lists after a 6-5 season speaks volumes.

It seems Shula doesnt spend much time recruiting during the season, which is about how it should be IMO. Now that the season is over, he is making up a lot of ground with a lot of recruits. He is also recruiting against the grain right now. Imagine how many recruits we will be getting after a few impressive seasons. Add to that the stadium addition and I think we will be stocking up pretty easily.

You have to be able to recruit regionally before you can recruit nationally. You only go for the national recruits if your area cant get you the players you need/want. We could do like UT (both of them) does... or did, depending on which UT you are thinking of, and recruit nationally just for the sake of recruiting nationally. IMO, those players that are not from your area dont understand what your school is all about. Players from the SE know what Bama stands for, and know what is expected of them. That weighs just as much on their performance as raw talent. It aint always the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog.

Well, last year we cleaned up in state. This year, the state was down in overall talent. This year, we definitely moved on to a wider approach. Honestly, we don't need to go out of the Deep South b/c we have so many good athletes. The panhandle of FL especially, but FL in general, needs to be tapped. And, that is what is happening: Brown and Hall last year, Coffee, Harvey, and Johnson this year. Not to mention going after Murdock and Rouse.

Outside of GA, TN, and MS (which we have some from this year and last) technically we went to Hargrave, VA to get Mitchell. Fanney was from TN and Washington from GA. Jimmy Barnes is from CA, as well as Prince Hall.
We are after Mikell Simpson who is from PA, Deaderick from KY, and Worthington from NY.

We are filling needs. And the staff is filliing these needs very well. We are getting good athletes, most of which seem to have impeccable character. My personal observation is that these kids are "coachable"-- and that's something you can't rate.

A lot of people like to see who else is offering these kids. Just because someone doesn't offer this kid, doesn't mean he isn't any good. It is impossible to offer every stud out there. And a lot of times, these "studs" just don't fit the system. For instance, you would think we would offer every 1-10 rated RB in the nation. But, it is just impossible, for one, and the staff goes through and picks which one's they like-- not who else likes them.

In terms of stars, I honestly would take a class just like this one every year. And, once we get back to SEC championships, the classes will only get better.

You also have to know how some of these recruiting services work. Alot of the time they have never seen one of these recruits play, but instead look at who is offering him and do the ranking accordingly.

If you got a QB that is being coveted by Nebraska, Miami, FSU, and OU, then the recruiting 'experts' will rank him highly on the theory that if all those schools like him, he must be good. Then you got a LB like Schreiber. He has all the stats as any other defensive player in the nation, but is being recruited by Bama, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech. Well, he must not be as good if LSU isnt even going after him.... you get what I'm saying right?

Can we get some stats from High school, where he played and who recruited him out of high school etc.............

Stephenson High in GA...not heavily recruited out of HS. His stock soared at Hargrave. Saw his video, he is a good cover corner and comes up great on the run too.
