DeBoer gets his first transfer ... and it's a QB. Austin Mack

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Maybe, but what it's more likely to be is a realization that at least one of the Milroe-Simpson-Lonergan trio will leave after spring, and then you're at least 1 QB short for the season.

We had 5 on scholarship last year -- Milroe, Simpson, Buchner, Lonergan, Holstein.

We were looking at going into spring with 4 this year -- Milroe, Simpson, Lonergan, Sayin.

So if you lose one or two of those guys, it gets a bit dicey. And, this is likely also a case of DeBoer really liking this kid and wanting to continue to coach him.
Or possible no one leaves and all want to compete...............Milroe has one more year, then it's back to 4 QBs

Need to cut off the nay saying here reap quick.

We have no idea who will be on this roster in the next 3 weeks or after the spring.

Anybody coming in right, wants to be here. Appreciate them. Whatever the position. We will get corners, and we will get safeties. We just need to be patient. Portal swings both ways.

After spring I expect we have 3 or 4 in that room. Milroe is locked in and so is Sayin we don't know where the others will be playing next year.

Welcome aboard. Roll tide.
Precisely

Considering that this guy didn't play a single snap in his first year at UW I doubt he comes in and runs off the other QBs, at least not in the short term. Initially, I'd expect him to fill the role that Buchner filled last year...helping to establish the culture that the Grubb and CKD want in the QB room. Couple years from now...who knows.

Head scratcher otherwise. I figured the last thing we needed was a QB but I’m just a confused fan. Roll.
My thoughts exactly. The one position where I would guess we do not need is QB.
I think this is CKD being a bit sentimental with a player from his old team, a group he was obviously attached to.

Man, the losses in the portal have screwed some of y'all up. If you are making light of this, did you read anything about this kid???

He skipped his senior year of HS (reclassified from '24 to '23) in order to come in and learn Washington's system, which is now Bama's! That's sacrifice and dedication and an eye on the big picture. Not only that, when he grows into his frame a little more (he's already added 30 pounds since his jr. year of HS to now), he's going to look like a prototypical QB standing in the pocket.

Look at the film and you'll see a major talent. Depending on what happens in front of him with likely transfers OR, God forbid, injuries or busts and you may just be laughing at an eventual Bama starting QB.

QBs are the life of a program and backbone of most championships, especially in this modern age of college football.

This could be connected or not. I'm sure AM is following CKD/Grubb because of the familiarity he already has for them and what he learned in the system last year. His transfer may have been in the works for day (might have been part of what CKD made reference to at the basketball game the other night) and it could have nothing at all to do with Sayin staying or leaving.

Again, I don't like Sayin leaving, but I can't be mad at these guys who thought they'd be playing for the GOAT and then a few weeks after signing got the same surprise we got about 10 days ago.

It's not sunshine pumping to say we'll survive this and eventually thrive. We have a great new HC and great offensive system. The players are going to come. It's going to be OK.

After looking at his junior highlights he's got a lot of good things to like. Looks like a really strong arm. He kind of reminds me of Mac Jones the way he slides around in the pocket. He also seems to be able to read and get through his progressions quickly. He may very well be a factor in the QB competition. Wish they put up lowlights videos so we can see what these guys look like when they face adversity.

With him leaving high school early, which in my view is a huge negative, he probably plans to be prepping for the draft two years from now. Physically looks really promising but not sure about the intangibles. Still, really interesting prospect.
