What bastions of courage!!!

Except when you remember:
- Gonzales only won his primary last time by 350 votes
- he's not considered conservative enough is part of why he has a primary now
- he's about the most unpopular candidate in the state overall
- he's in what (at least was) a very safe red district


Again, this is political contrivance, not courage. This is another "Al Franken needs to resign because his replacement will be a Democrat" tactic only by the other party.

If these Republican women are SO BOLD they don't care about the majority but do care about the victims, WHY DON'T THEY GET ANOTHER 3 GOP PERSONS WHO ARE GOING TO LEAVE ANYWAY TO RESIGN IMMEDIATELY ALONG WITH THEM AND FLIP CONTROL TO THE DEMOCRATS?

They can use the Epstein File edits as an excuse.

THAT - I would consider courageous and standing up for something. This has more to do with making sure this guy gets wiped out in the primary for a more conservative guy. Plus, they know he isn't going to resign so it's easy to say it.

I've pointed out that ever since the day I arrived in Texas (August 19, 2001) that "this is the year Texas goes blue." it has ALWAYS been utter nonsense and based upon wishful thinking.

This one is not.

If Talarico can win the Democratic primary and KEN PAXTON, Trumper that he is, wins the GOP nod, it will actually have an outside chance of happening. I won't go so far as to say it WILL happen - it is still ruby red Texas, after all - but this isn't Wendy Davis making abortion the litmus test or Beto facing the unpopular Cruz. Ken Paxton isn't even well-liked by Republicans.

I wouldn't bet on it - but it's still a better chance than it's been since 1994, too.

Well, I agree that whole Pizza gate thing was nonsense, Hillary Clinton is the last person on planet earth that gets to talk about conspiracy theories.

I am still trying to figure out how I never heard about that Pizza conspiracy in 2016. I guess it’s because I was going through a divorce and had a son who was a mascot and a senior in high school, but I honest to God do not remember hearing about that until years later.

I mean, the moment I heard this was one of those Republican rumors, I thought - "REALLY?" I mean, I can buy Hillary as a lesbian in an arranged marriage with Bill, I can buy that Bill used the Mena airport to send arms to the contras, I can even believe he had a few of his enemies wiped out locally - though nothing to the extent of the claims of Jerry Falwell.

Former Missouri House Speaker John J. Diehl Jr. has been sentenced on a charge related to fraud.

In September of 2025, Diehl waived formal indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. On Monday, he was sentenced to 21 months in prison and fined $50,000.

Diehl admitted that on March 30, 2020, he applied for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan on behalf of his law firm, the Diehl Law Group. The loan program was designed to help struggling small businesses during the pandemic.

Less than a month after applying for the loan, an advance of $1,000 was deposited into the Diehl Law Group bank account. He later made a $1,320.15 payment to a country club for personal dues and charges.

Then, on June 9, 2020, the remainder of the loan, $93,900, was put into the law firm’s bank account. Diehl reportedly transferred some of that money into his personal bank accounts. On Sept. 16, 2020, Diehl also transferred $50,039.55 of the EIDL proceeds to the Diehl Law Group’s retirement plan, in which Diehl was the only participant.

In March of 2022, Diehl requested a loan modification and claimed that the law group would use the money to “to alleviate economic injury caused by disaster.” Additional loan payments of $285,000 were wired into the Diehl Law Group bank account, of which Diehl transferred $150,000 into his retirement plan.

In total, prosecutors said Diehl obtained $379,900 in loan funds through the fraud scheme.

Diehl has paid back the money that was stolen.

A Republican congressman in California has changed his affiliation to independent, but will continue to caucus with the Republicans.

A little digging suggests this is an attempt to save his job. The Wikipedia article on his district has it as “Solid D” in the midterms. It seems his district was gerrymandered in California’s tit for tat with Texas. California has jungle primaries so everyone runs in one election and the top two advance to the finals in November.

This puts the House at 217-214-1. The vacancies are MTG, a Republican in California who died, and the Democrat in New Jersey who became governor. So it will likely be 219-215-1 (really 220-215) after the special elections are done. A narrow divide but the “GOP is failing apart” wing will make a bigger deal of the switch than it really is.

Republicans should be passing popular, one-page bills every week until Nov. '26.

Pretty hard to do this when the raging toddler on Adderall with toy missiles has one of his fits every ten seconds. Now he's suddenly dug in and "I won't sign anything into law until this unconstitutional act passes" is his hill his party will die on.
