I've been reading the thread about Shula's offense and others related. I agree, some of the play calling was questionable but I will trust they had their reasons and know more than me.

BUT - I will say that if Brodie hits 2 out of the 3 wide open deep passes he missed, we win 24-10 in regulation and we wouldn't be reading about Shula's offense. 2 of the 3 weren't what you would call "bombs" where the QB throws it really deep, 2 of them were 20-25 yard passes that would have been 50 yard runs after the catch, not hard passes.

John Parker Wilson throws the deep ball much better than Brodie does. Brodie, and I love his heart and character, but hasn't impressed me that much lately.

Heck, even my wife who is a sports fan, but not particularly Alabama fan (Ole Miss grad) was watching today, she usually stays clear on game days... said "He's really not that good". She hears me talk about him all the time so she wondered what all the fuss was about. She saw the two overthrows against UCheaT too...

I agree, Brodie did overthrow. But.... and this has been said before, but, he's use to having Prothro as his go-to man, who's always there. Prothro is just faster than alot of the other recievers. Brodie's good, but I don't think he's adjusted yet to not having Prothro there. And then with the O-line falling apart, it just makes it worse.

I don't think...

the world will come to an end next year, having to depend on JPW. He also throws very well on the run, out of the pocket. I hope some of the proponents of rolling Brodie out saw tonight why it's been rare...

I'm actually looking forward to next year. This OL is simply making me sick every time I watch and the WR dropping passes aren't far behind the OL.

I think JPW will be a fine qb and hopefully will be able to use more of the field and higher percentage passes with him.

Brodie is a drop back passer. He needs to drop back and set his feet before throwing or he is off on his passes. That said. You need a O-line to keep them off of you. Him rolling out and getting hurried is one of the things that hurt his accuracy. Also you need to have WR to catch his balls.

He has had plenty of time to adjust to not having prothro in there. I think his biggest problem is that its hard to find a groove when you cant get half of your passes off because you are laying on the ground.

I've got a really good feeling about JPW!!! The kid has got "spunk" to go along with his talent!

Prothro has been gone for roughly half the season.

Brodie has shown leadership at a time that this program needed that more than anything else. That having been said, his critics have valid points. I hope that he gets a shot in the NFL (if he wants it), because pure drop-back passers can flourish in many systems at that level. With our offensive line this year, his limits were exposed.

You're right Earle. EVERY pass that BC threw on a roll out sailed high. EVERY one...

I wish Brodie well in the future, but I don't think he will be recruited by NFL teams.
I think his past injuries will play a big part in NFL teams deciding to overlook him. Also, his experience as a QB has been greatly diminished by his injuries. His injuries caused him to lose playing time, and that loss of playing time caused him to not gain the experience normally associated with a senior QB.

It just looks to me...

as if he's not really practiced it that much. Russell, OTOH, appears as if he's been doing it since he was knee-high to a duck. Much as it killed me for the effect it was having on our team, it was almost a thing of beauty to watch. When he scrambled, it looked almost lazy - and when he threw, it looked like someone throwing a baseball. But, back to Brodie, over-throwing on long balls is not new. I've watched him in warmup drills as long as he's been there and I'd estimate that he overthrows more than half. Pro was just fast and quick enough to run under them. There have been plenty of good NFL QBs who weren't very mobile - Marino was painful to watch trying to run and Testaverde is still playing at age 40, but BC'll have to demonstrate that he can hit the long one. The coaches know best from watching them in practice, but it seems to me that Brown has got about a half-step on Hall. I think he has a better chance at running under the fly. Hall has better hands, by far, but that doesn't help if you're covered when you reach the end zone. All this just MHO...

Bingo!

It's not as if BC didn't throw with Hall, Brown, Knight and others all during the offseason and in practices.

Prothro just had a knack for running those overthrows down. As was stated, Hall has the hands; but Brown has the speed. Prothro had both. And that's where BC got exposed down the stretch this season - he hasn't had anyone with both the speed and hands to run those balls down.

That said, what BC added to this team's psyche leadership-wise can not be dismissed. Fortunately, next season we return all of the starters on O except for Croyle and Closner. Hopefully, the returning experience will help make up for the loss of the leadership from this season. As long as we can fix the OL problems, I think our offense will be very dangerous next season.

I know BC overthrew some winning passes but the 4 or 5 dropped by WR's may also have made a difference in the game's outcome.Hope the wr's get better catching the ball next season.

Hey folks, has everyone already annointed JPW as BC's successor? I sure hope Jimmy Barnes has something to say about that! Coming out of HS he was on a par with Mark Sanchez and the redshirt year should certainly have helped him. Also, Tim Tebow may make it to campus. It should make for an interesting spring.

I agree with the above of posts

But let's remember that maybe this team is set up to play their best ball against Auburn. What a way to end the season. 10 - 1 and headed to a bowl. All is not lost!

i might jump in here as well. i dont think it is tyrone missing that is causing the missed connections on deep balls. i have watched the same problems now since the success in the florida game. when brodie gets protection and he is comfortable and throwing off his forward foot he is as accurate as any qb. when he is getting pummelled like yesterday, no way he can be accurate. early in the game he had the opportunity to connect as has been the case in a lot of games this year early to hall and brown, before the blitzing starts. Brodie does not throw a pass that allows his receivers to run under the ball, they are bullets 40 or 50 yards in the air. there is nothing wrong with brown and halls speed, they beat their man often and are open for passes that give them the chance to run under than for completions and touchdowns. brodie just does not throw that kind of pass. he throws bullets. every game in the second half, the other team starts the blitz package for the whole half, and we have to keep the tight end on the line to help blocking, we have to keep the full back in to help with blocking and thereforre, we only have two wide receivers going downfield for passes. it sure makes it easy to cover them. it all falls on the lack of blocking for the qb and it is especially telling against good teams like LSU, and next week against auburn. now we are exposed up the middle and on the outside. i am sure glad we won the first 9. however, the sad part is we still had a chance to win the game, if our def coach had of blitzed russell more himself in the second half, so we could have turned the field advantage around. we got that opportunity in the overtime, but, i could not believe, on 3d and 6, he only rushed 4, and allowed russell all the time in the world to pick out a receiver in the end zone.
