Alabama's Kerry Murphy out for the spring - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

The link is about Kerry Murphy missing spring, but there are some excerpts from this article that I found interesting.

But if indeed Murphy is finished, that puts even more of a premium on the two junior college defensive linemen the Crimson Tide signed in this class -- Jesse Williams and Quinton Dial.

Saban said that Williams underwent knee surgery to correct a minor issue that had been lingering since junior college, but Williams is expected to be out there for the start of spring practice on March 21. The 6-4 Williams, who's originally from Australia and played last season at Arizona Western College, has trimmed down to 319 pounds. At one point, he weighed more than 340 pounds. Senior Josh Chapman and Williams will likely share the nose guard duties. Dial probably factors in at end. Like Williams, Dial is already on campus and will go through spring practice.

Junior Damion Square and sophomore Darrington Sentimore also return at end, while sophomore Ed Stinson is moving from Jack linebacker to end. Stinson has bulked up to nearly 280 pounds.

Our front seven has some unreal potential. It's great. This defense as a whole can possibly be one of the best we've seen in a while because of the potential with the front seven and the experience the secondary as. Lockdown corners with ball hawking, run-stopping safeties in the secondary with a terrorizing front seven and no offense will want to play UA.

I think Stinson will be make some noise at DE this year. I need to tone down my expectations a bit but I'm looking for big things out Williams.

We desparately need a speed rush in order to get to the QB. That's something we lacked last year and it showed.
The Dline needs to disrupt the timing, and acctualy get the QB, to give those dbacks some help. If that develops then we WILL see a dominant defense.

Saw J. Williams at the Bball game and thought he looked a lot smaller than he was advertised. He looks nothing like that big scary picture on Rivals anymore.
I think Quinton Dial may end up being as big a contributer as Williams. Dial is a huge dude himself and is very talented. Can't wait to see Stinson bulked up.

I think it's just the way he carries himself at times. In the second image below, he looks downright sheepish. But he's anything but - he's still built for destruction.

Interesting to see that Williams slimmed down so much. I wonder if it was a concentrated effort to do so or just a byproduct of the S&C program. Maybe Coach Saban is looking for more of a pass rusher than a lane clogger at NT...

That has been thought on Williams since i saw his pic. The usual run-stuffing lane clogging nose guards are usually not cut that way. He looks more Suh type.

I too have cooled my enthusiasm for williams just a bit, but he will be effective. The stinson thing is very interesting. he was ripped at 260. He must look beastly at 280. Dial, Sentimore, Square and stinson, surely we can find a couple of ......es between those four.

I think Dial may end being as effective or maybe more than Williams. Dial is 6-6, 320 and very talented.

Who are they? We have two guys with the potential to be, but they haven't earned that stripe yet.

I think everyone looks smaller then they are made out to be. I'm 6-2", 215 and when I see guys like B. Jones, Im not really impressed with their size. The only player in the past few years that I've been impressed with (no homo) was Michael Johnson. Dude was a total beast. T. Cody just looked fat in street clothes honestly lol.
