Devastating Tornado Damage in Tuscaloosa

I lost my home here in wildfires in So. California in Nov 2008. I know what these people are going thru. I am grieving all over again. T-Town is a Special Place. Know I will be lifting my old community up in prayer for a long time.

This is heart-breaking. My home in T-Town (back in the early 90's) was right off 15th Street on Hackberry Lane. We ate at Taco Casa after the A-Day game this year. Wow. God have mercy on the people who have to rebuild their lives.

I was in university village and watched it form. considering the damage around us and next to us, my friends and i are very lucky to be alive. a couple of hundred feet away from us it completely leveled everything. we were all confronting the fear of death. when we came out, everyone was standing around in shock, and a group of people thoughg they saw something, starting running, all of the sudden everyone starting sprinting back with looks of horror on their faces. the way to describe the way i felt is utterly terrified

Thanks AJ...me too. Just very worried about her with all the devastation that she is able take care of herself properly. Finals are next week I believe.

Terrible. Can't imagine the destruction down there even though I've seen the photos....just unbelievable. Hope to god there isn't any more casualties and everyone's safe.

it was confirmed that everyone is university village is fine, it went around us. it touchdown right behind the village, we watched it touch down and it didnt seem like reality. luckily my friend was a grounded christian and kept everyone calm

I am having problems posting pics. But on the Drudgereport there is a "BEFORE" and "AFTER" pic of a neighborhood in Tuscaloosa right before the tornado hits (you can see it in the background) and the devastation afterwards. Does anyone know where that neighborhood is (on the right)?

Those pics aren't from the same neighborhood. Pic on the right looks like Alberta City which is pretty much a ghost town now

Just saw on the weather channel the tornado is being ruled an EF-4. just hate to imagine the damage had it been an EF-5 like the OKC or Jerrell, TX tornados back in the 90's. Still praying for all the UA students and everyone who has been impacted.

On a positive note, according to my friend, all UA athletes are accounted for...

It is unbelievable, such an horrific event. I am praying for everyone who had to face this act of nature. Lives and families destroyed is sickening. Just do not know what to say beyond this.

Still no news on the "hundred dead" report so I'm hoping that was false. Makes you wonder how rumors like that start. I can't imagine someone making that up on purpose. God bless you all that are waking up to deal with this mess today, especially those that list friends and family.

Can we get some updates from those in the area as the sun comes up?

I'm really afraid that as the sun comes up, the news will get much worse. Please post where people can donate to help. There will be a massive need for help.
We're hearing the death toll is over 175. I hope that's not accurate.

Good luck to everyone in the tornado stricken area! I saw it on the news last night and reports of 13 to 15 people have died. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Best thing to do, if you're not physically in town to help, is to donate money to the Red Cross and indicate that you want it to go towards the tornado victims in Alabama.

128 confirmed dead in Alabama and expected to rise.

This is the most startling image I've seen yet - it appears to be 15th St heading east (you can see the Home Depot in the distance) - unreal...

From what I've been hearing, the path took the tornado through Albert City, just north of Five Points, which would mean this thing likely *just* missed my in-laws house in Cottondale. They are likely to be without power for some time - possibly weeks - so I might be heading down Sat. with supplies for them to help them hold over (there's zero chance they'll come stay with us for that long, they're hard core homebodies)...
