Bama brought in 22 players from the 2010 signees. I don't know if any of the grayshirts from the 2009 class counted against the 2010 class. I believe the punter, Mandell, was an invited walk-on, if so, he would have to count against the 2010 class.

In summary, it appears that a total of 23 players were brought in (including Mandell) from the 2010 class. Therefore if there were no 2009 grayshirts that were counted against 2010 then Love and Carswell, the two grayshirts from 2010 can be backcounted.

I understand it to be an invited walk-on must wait two years before playing otherwise he will count towards the overall 85 players.

If he plays in the first two years he must count against the 25 for his class. He will always count against the overall 85 no matter which year he plays. Even if he didn't play until his 4th year he would count against the 85 in that year.

I got the numbers mixed up. He would count against the 25 from his class. I don't get the 85 part though. The roster has 105 on it, correct? I thought roster spots 86-105 were walk-ons while 1-85 were scholly players.

You are correct in that 86-105 are walk-ons, but if one of those walk-ons is an invited walk-on and he plays, he must be counted in the 85 scholly players. If there are actually 85 players on the team with scholarships, the invited walk-on cannot play because there is no spot for him.

I believe you are confusing invited walk on with recruited walk on. Invited walk ons do not count against the 85. Recruited walk ons would count. The difference is did they take an official visit or not.

Yeah and then you have your uninvited recruited walk on's as well. It can get messy.

I thought I had read we had 23 against the class last year so we could actually bring in 27 this year. That would allow 25 to be counted against the 2011 class and 2 to back count. The real question is in making it work against the 85 max rule. My head is still hurting from tryng to figure that one out each year and now will not worry about it because the staff will get it done.

haha:conf3::conf3: Is that you Les Miles?

If we happen to get all of the big name guys we want this year, we'll more than likely have to greyshirt this year too. Wonder who those will be?

How many seniors are on the roster this year? Also, if there is a lockout and players like Ingram and Julio come back, that will make it even harder to make the #'s work.
