Do the greeks sit in that section in the upper south endzone that was empty tonight?

I was about to say... with all these complaints about the fraternity and sorority system and why things haven't changed...

Are you all aware of how things are really done at Alabama?
i was thinking that myself. looks like things haven't changed much in the 20+ yrs since i've been gone.

i sure do miss bama bino's ;)

i graduated from UA this past may. i guarantee that if the entire student section was in the lower bowl, it would have been filled. having any students (easily the loudest group in the stadium) in the upper deck is ridiculous. thanks to my dad, i get to sit in the west upper deck every game. there were many empty seats all around me. i don't think students were responsible for those.
I sit in section A (right next to the student section) Section S-8 of the student section was mostly empty when the game started. BTW, I know TN puts students in the upper deck.

I thought when they first released the new student sections last year that it would be a disaster and I think it was. I understand that they don't want to expand the student section into higher paying tickets (hundreds more per ticket), but students go for the game and the atmosphere. You go to be with your friends to watch the game, since there are no assigned seats. Most of your friends are going to be in the lower bowl, so you don't want to sit up there.

I definitely hope they review this at year's end and change it.

Or, even better, push the greeks into the upper deck and the real student fans get to sit in the lower bowl.
I am going to be one very unhappy camper if they move me to put students in the lower bowl. This Thursday will be only the 2nd home game I have missed in 7 years and I drive from Memphis.

LSU has had this problem before and Florida shouldn't have this problem simply for the fact their student section is about the same size, maybe smaller even, and they have almost 20,000 MORE students than Alabama has.

I disagree that the "majority" of students are "huge supporters." If that were true, there would never be any empty students seats.

There is a sense of entitlement and apathy regarding game attendance at the university that has been there since I was a student in the late 80's. The students always say they want to go to the games. They certainly want the cheap tickets, but then the game rolls around and, well, they'd rather party with their buddies in an off-campus apartment or on The Strip. They're young. They're "anti." I get it.

The university has never managed its student tickets/seating issues well. They need to figure out the average student attendance, then provide student seating/ticketing that is about 5-7% less than that number. Our student section has never been an intimidating presence. We've never been a factor that, say, LSU's student section has been. It's a combination of student attitude and university mismanagement - plenty of blame to go around IMO.

it seems to me the problem isnt that students dont use their tix, the problem is that the greeks leave early. so here is a simple solution:
make the greek section the upper deck. that way the passionate students who want to watch the game get better seats and stay the entire time.
the greeks, who are apathetic about being there, will hate climbing the extra stairs with a hangover and eventually show up less and less. when they dont show up after 2 games, revoke their right to the ticket and give it to a tidepride member. it should only take a season or two before the greeaks are weeded out, we dont have to worry about them giving us a bad rep with their drunken cursing and vomiting and throwing bottles on the field. on top of all that, we have a full stadium.

btw, i'd still love to hear the rationale for dolling yourself up to go to a game only to leave early. it makes no sense.

I’ll pay $45 per ticket, sit on the top row of the upper deck, buy my own food, and show up for all the games. Bama fans have a passion for their team but seem to get complacent about going to all the games when they have season tickets. That includes A Club members, faculty, students, and Tide Pride members.

I don't understand why some people have a problem with sitting up top. I have only sat in the lower bowl twice, once on the first row where I couldn't see and once in the endzone. The upper deck has a great view and you can even see the numbers on the jerseys. I love it.

Well I happened to be in that group when I was in school. So for all I care you can keep your opinion to yourself

It doesnt matter what group you were in, its the truth. Maybe you came to every game with bells on and screamed your head off, a lot of the greeks dont.

In fairness, a good many of the other seats emptied out well before the game was over, I just expect more of the UA students.
