Do we think Ty wins the Heisman?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Ty Simpson when asked how he would have played in 2024. Alabama QB answers:

"Do I feel like I'm the same player? No. But I feel like I have the same ability. So, who knows? It didn't happen, but I'm glad that God's put me here."

He looks to be a good leader for sure, very important to beef your guys up and take the knocks yourself publicly. Even when not true... Gotta tought it out and elevate the team.

We saw flashes of his quick release and tight spiral last year. It's why so many of us wanted to see him play last year.

I can't imagine our record would have been any worse. That's all I'll say about that!

But, the bigger question right now (and we better get prepared for it to happen) is if Ty's going to be a top 10 first round pick in the draft if he chooses to enter it???

I think he loves Bama, but if his stock is that high, he's probably gone, and who could blame him?

I said months ago the best thing that might could happen in our QB room is for Ty to do so well that he got draft eligible.
As well as he's playing, I'd like to see him have a second year to get even bigger, but his stock may never get higher than this year if we keep winning.

And, we'll be OK. Russell is the truth!

If I were Ty I would not go pro after this year. But that will be a very difficult choice given how he is tracking to be a first rounder possibly a high one.

But, there are VERY few NFL QBs who find any level of success in the NFL after only starting for 1 year in college. I honestly can't even think of one that was good. Tannehill? I guess Kyler Murray kind of counts? Mac Jones? But he is hardly an NFL star.

The biggest issue with most QBs is finding the correct fit. These NFL GMs keep just drafting guys because he was the guy available and they needed a QB. We have now seen a handful of "busts" get a second or third or ven fourth shot on a another team and look like a completely different guy. Mac Jones being just one of them.

Yep, and depending on which team he goes to, he may be asked to start immediately which rarely goes well. I think Ty would benefit by coming back his senior year and getting more high level college starts under his belt. I get that if he does that we stand to lose Russell to the portal, but if I'm CKD and Ty Simpson tells me he's coming back for his senior year, I'm not telling him "no". Keeping my job is more important than worrying about if a 5* QB who's never started one college game might transfer. A bird in the hand is better than a bird in the bush.

Agreed that is also super important. I do think part of this is OCs in the NFL are better at covering their QB deficiencies now. But the success of guys like Geno (even if he has fallen off), Darnold and apparently Daniel Jones is a lesson for NFL franchises for sure.

Agree we would never tell him to go. That would be crazy with what he's shown in 7 starts. But, I'm just saying if he's a top 10 pick he'll probably go and it will be OK with Russell in the wings.

I know nothing is guaranteed, but I think Russell has the stuff to be a star!

After the Arch Manning debacle at Texas, I'm more of a "let me see it done in an SEC game" before I start getting my hopes up. Manning was predicted (even by the recruiting analysts) as a sure thing and he's been a bust, imo.

Think I read something last month that Russell said he is staying at Bama no matter what even if Ty comes back next season

I hope Ty wins the Heisman and we win the NC.

Then I hope he comes back and wins a 2nd Heisman and a 2nd NC.

Then I hope he goes #1 in the NFL Draft to a team with a Good situation who traded up to get him and he has the most successful career of any Bama QB ever.

If other players leave over it:

I understand getting paid immediately but I really do think it would be in Ty’s best long term interest to come back for next season. One season as a starter in college makes for a tough transition to the NFL, regardless of how well one performed. Joe Burrow needed 2 years to really come into his own and then be successful at the Bengals. Mac could have honestly used another year, etc. I just think you are gambling with your long term career prospects and earning potential if you come out after one good starting season and try to transition directly to the higher level of NFL play.

Ty is playing great but he is also still making “first time starter” mistakes, such as taking unnecessary sacks. Another year will help him polish that, plus it’s not like he isn’t getting paid here anyways.

I’m still fuzzy on understanding how NIL deals work but according to ON3 Ty’s deals have increased from $500K in August to $2.5 Mil and now has the most lucrative deal on the team.

I imagine it would only keep going up the more success he and team have.

So I suppose hypothetically if he played for 2 years he could leave with at least $5 Mil +

But to your main point I agree that another season starting in CFB could only help him be more prepared for the jump to the NFL.
