Re: possible new commit

There were some interesting discussions yesterday about a quote he gave Rodney Orr during a phone interview.

"Right now I'd say the chances are high that I'll commit to Alabama," Davis says. "I've thought about doing it real soon. But I might wait. Scout.com asked me to commit on TV at the All-American game [next January]. I really don't know when I'll do it yet."

I'd say the majority felt that scout.com is beginning to put their hands into the process of recruiting kids to heavily today.

FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if he commits during the Sr. Camp. One of the things our staff looks at during camps (and the specific reason you don't see a lot of verbals until camps conclude) is how "coachable" a prospect is...his coach calls him one of the most coachable kids he's had a chance to coach in his career.

Nebraska has offered him a scholly this week also...right now, I'd say the battle is between UA and the 'Huskers.

Re: possible new commit

Terry, though he will be at the camp, he said he would not be participating. He is just going down to check things out.

Article from Bamamag:
"I am going to Iowa this weekend for a visit, and I am going to Alabama for a visit. My coach is working the camp at Alabama June 10. I won't be participating. I am just going to check out the campus and visit with the coaches."

Re: possible new commit

I would stop short of saying the recruiting services are interfereing with recruiting, but I won't stop short of it being a real possibility that needs to be explored, These services are someones bread and butter and their ability to market the announcements are the currency, They make the money, the kid gets nothing, usually those arrangements change over time and the NCAA starts thinking "how do I control this". also is an announcement to a major school worth more publicity wise than a lesser known one, and would the recruiting services try to steer recruits to schools that pay a LOT of attention to recruiting?

FWIW, how many stars do you think this recruit will have?

well, he really appeared out of nowhere. I really had not heard is name mentioned before. I would suspect he'd be a three star. He must've impressed the staff for him to get an offer as quickly as he did after film and practice viewing. I like his numbers now, 6'4", 275.....that way he can hopefully keep some speed and work up to the lbs. the staff wants him at.

Work to the weight? Crap, if he can run a legit 4.75 40, keep him at his current weight, try to boost his strength and quickness, and you've got the defensive end from hell.

Thanks, RTO. Yeah, this guy was certainly off my radar. It looks like God intended to make a football player though.:)

According to a thread on another site he has been asked by Scout.com to hold off and make his announcent at the U.S. Army All-American game in January,2007. If that is the case then he will be very highly rated when the rankings come out. I don't know if that rumor is true or not.

let's hope he gives the staff a silent b/c the #s are tight

Re: DT Demetrius Davis close to committing?

Actually, I think the player who grew up admiring DT is Michael Keck, a DE from Harrisonville Missouri, not saying D davis was or wasnt, but Keck was a huge D thomas fan. And he could very well be the #1 de in the nation after this year. 6'5-227 , 144 tackles,28 for loss, 12 sacks. Id love to have this guy. Exited about DD too though!

Re: DT Demetrius Davis close to committing?

yes i definitely want both of them keck has a lot of speed for a de

Re: DT Demetrius Davis close to committing?

I'm betting it'll be a while now b/c it sounds like his Nebraska trip went well.....setting one up for the Capstone.

Re: DT Demetrius Davis committed tp Nebraska

IMO, It's early to start worrying about losing recruits, he may be one of those young men that changes his mind quite often. If he comes down to T-town for a visit, he'll change his mind again. Nebraska probably just pressured him before he comes down here, because they know he'll be a strong lean then.

Yeah most of the time, they are awed by the first places they go. So they often jump on the opportunity rather than weighing out their options. We'll give him some time to make a more educated decision.
