This is the year 2017, and companies make DVD players without HDMI slots?

I have a PS3 but have to use a Blu-Ray player for some discs. When I researched the problem, I discovered the earlier generation PS3s don't read every kind of BR disc. Sony offered a refund of like $150 if the costumer decided to return the machine and purchase a newer one.

Walmart makes deals with many different companies to make separate, CHEAP models just for them. These are models that you won't find in any other store, but Walmart buys and sells by the thousands.
Many repair shops won't even touch them.
