The Rebels advance to the regional where they will play the Leeds - Central - Coosa winner on Feb . 22 at 10 a . m .
" This feels great to be able to get to Jacksonville ," said Emma Sansom coach Jeremy Brooks . " We accomplished our final goal . Now , we may have to set a new one . I told our girls if we could get to Jacksonville , that anything could happen ."
Guntersville scored the first 11 points of the game and held Sansom scoreless for almost six minutes to start the game .
But the Rebels went on a 20 - 2 run over the final four - and - a - half minutes of the second quarter and almost the entire third quarter to take a double - digit lead .
" We came out a little flat and I was a little worried ," Brooks said . " We fought hard , plus we got lucky that Guntersville also played a little flat . We were able to play hard and fight through it early in the game until we finally got going there in the second half ."
Alisa Terrell hit two straight 3 - pointers and Besty Beam added another as Guntersville jumped out to an 11 - 0 lead , but the Rebels closed to 11 - 8 at the end of the quarter .
" I was really concerned because I felt we would be able to get the ball inside and score on the block ," Brooks said . " I was a little concerned about breaking their press . But once we got into our halfcourt offense , we still were struggling early in the game . We changed to a man - to - man defense and that got us going ."
Guntersville still led 19 - 13 with 4 : 26 left in the half on Keri Havis ' basket .
But the Rebels went on a 11 - 0 run to close the quarter to take a 24 - 19 lead at the break .
Sansom then held Guntersville to just two points over the first 7 : 59 of the third quarter , taking a 33 - 21 lead on Deidre Foster ' s jumper with : 26 left .
Guntersville closed to within 34 - 31 with 5 : 21 left , then Candance Johnson buried a 3 - pointer in a 7 - 0 run to push the lead back to double figures .
The Wildcats got it back to five again in the final minutes , but could get it no closer despite Sansom turning over the ball twice and missing the front end of two one - and - ones down the stretch .
Havis led Guntersville with 17 points , followed by Beam with nine and Terrell and Courtney Williamson with six apiece .
Kerra Dolan added nine points for the Rebels .
" This is great ," Dolan said . " I ' m very excited . This feels good from going to a losing record when I was a freshman to get to Jacksonville . I never would have believed this back then ."
