You have to be kidding... this is getting out of hand.

"I don't think anyone can dismiss anything out of hand," he (Neb. Chancellor Harvey Perlman) said. "If you take the wildest predictions about mega-conferences — 16 is the number you see most, but 24 has been floated though not publicly — we certainly have to act in the interest of Nebraska."

How about a 64-team "conference"? This "conference" wouldn't need the NCAA. It could subdivide into divisions along regional lines. At the end of the season those divisions could have a championship game (or games)...

Let's increase the size of the SEC to...96 teams! And then have 8, 12 team divisions, where the winner of each "division" plays in a "championship" game. The winner plays the a winner of the another division, until we have a National Champion (playoff style)! So, the SEC can finally breakaway from the NCAA, and we'll just crown the real NC without the total waste of time of playing a BCS bowl.

Dear God... imagine 23 crybabies in our conference! Dealing with 11 is almost unbearable, but 23... I don't even want to think about it...
Why are you always so negative? Most of your post are negitive. Anything to get us away from having to deal with the NCAA is a good thing.

Regional mega-conferences teams would work if they operated on a tier system like the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_football_league_system"]English football league system.[/ame]

Take 18 teams, divide them 2 divisions based on previous season's records, then begin to follow a promotion and relegation system. With 9 teams at each level, everyone gets to play everyone.

Or, with 24 teams, you could split them into 12 team divisions regionally, then apply the tiers. Giving you an upper and lower tier, each with 2 divisions, so you could have 2 championship games.

Granted, that lower division effectively becomes a glorified Sun Belt conference, but one that the best teams in can climb out of by winning the conference. It would allow teams to find their own level of play naturally.

In a 24 team football conference, you could conceivably go an entire decade without playing another member institution...

In a 16 team football conference, if they stayed at 8 conference games with a 7-1-0 format, you could conceivably NEVER play any of the other 7 member institutions in the opposite division. The only time you would play them would be in the CCG.

Add 1 more team to the FBS, play a 120 game schedule and the only unbeaten left standing would be the NC. The season would start on Labor Day weekend and end the next Labor Day weekend. :eek2:

That would be just like European soccer. :eek2: We could have knockout tournaments and a Champions League and a Super Cup...

Your last scenario would have to occur outside the jurisdiction of the NCAA. The rule which allows a championship game was never intended to be used at the 1A level. But the SEC and then the Big 12 took advantage of it. The NCAA nearly had a meltdown at the time because of the ONE game. There is no way in Hell, they would allow a conference to have TWO CG's.
