Players really need to worry less about the celebration & just make sure you score the TD..Crazy play of they year..And good play by the Oregon Players for realizing what had happened & took advantage of it..

I think Leon Lett called him an idiot.
I said it elsewhere, but it bears repeating.
I do not get this necessity of dropping the ball the instant you think you have scored. Does the player get "cool points" for doing this? I'd rather a player hang onto the ball all the way through the end zone and takes a step out the back side, then drops the ball, just to be sure.
In the hype video for LSU-Bama in 2011, Odell Beckham very nearly does this as well. He caught a long pass and the very instant he crosses the goal line, he drops the ball. Close to being a fumble, but I guess it looks cool.

I agree. I mean really, is it such a burden to carry the ball an extra ten feet before trying to demonstrate how awesome you are? I'm guessing the Utah idiot doesn't feel very cool right now.

Unreal. It would have been a 14-point lead and all the momentum for Utah.

Instead, tie game and momentum to Oregon.

I know Oregon won by more than 7, but that play could have been the difference in that game.

Maybe better for us because I believe we would beat Oregon. RTR!!

I switched over to the Utah-Oregon game during a commercial in the LSU-Bama game and watched that live. When the refs confirmed the ruling (TD Oregon), the camera was on the Utah twit. He didn't look too comfortable at that moment.
Hopefully, players around the league will watch this and realize just how badly this silly person screwed over his team trying to showboat.
Good advice: "Act like you've been there before."

Exactly..I've noticed just about every-time our Players scores, they run to the nearest Ref, and hands the ball to them, almost like it's been coached to them to do this to avoid needless & potential game changing boneheaded mistakes like this..
I prefer players handing / tossing the ball to the ref. This sort of showboating does nothing for me.

Strange thing, he went to the same HS as Desean Jackson. You think that's the way they were taught?

My favorite part of that video is seeing those 3 Utah players celebrating by the goal post while Oregon is racing downfield in the other direction.

just saw the play. impressed by the one utah player that took down the original oregon kid and caused him to fumble (only for next one to run 99).

the clay thing is pretty incredible. an espn talking head said he did the heisman pose vs michigan earlier this year...solid

I wonder how stupid that guy feels?

You, as a player, need to just hand the ball to the official after going across the goal line. Celebrate when you get to the sideline!

This needs to be shown to all QB's, WR's, and RB's in their FRESHMAN year so they won't look so stupid in the future.

This is just unreal and changed the momentum of the game.

How tall is that guy? I'll bet he doesn't feel that tall today!

Ironically, if the ball had stopped moving in bounds (i.e. not in the endzone but on the 1 yard line), the ref rightfully could have ruled the play dead and given Utah the ball, but since the ball was in the endzone play stays active until someone gains possession and is down or scores.

Rule 7, Article 5 - ARTICLE 5. When a backward pass or fumble comes to rest inbounds and no player attempts to secure it, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the passing or fumbling team at the dead-ball spot.
Would have been just as odd if the ball had come to rest at the one and the ref blew it dead and gave the ball to Utah, but it was in the endzone by a yard or so.
