Fedora to Southern Miss

There is a ton of excitement around here about the Fedora around here.

Irony alert: the last HC USM hired was...*drum roll*...OC at Ok St. when hired here.

Related aside: still waiting for all of those job offers to come for Jeff Bower. Anyone? Bueller? *crickets*

I thought Bower did a good job there. He's in a unique situation where there isn't near enough talent in the state to supply three D-I colleges. He did a good job of winning games and gettin' to bowl games. And, on the money end, he was a bargain. Good luck with the new coach.

There is plenty of talent in Mississippi. The problem for all 3 schools is keeping the talent in-state. We have 2 former Ms Player's of the Year on our roster now, not to mention the great players we've gotten in the past from Ms. Florida, F$U, and LSU have gotten some outstanding players from Ms also.

That part of my point, if you don't build a fence around the state you can't compete for recruits. With top guys leaving for Bama and LSU you have lower tier talent left for the three programs in the state with So. Miss. at the bottom of that barrell.

My wife was at the presser when he was announced...and said the whole place was very excited. I've talked to a few of my USM friends since, and they are also excited...in fact, most of THEM were at the presser too.

I don't know what to tell them other than..."sounds great, good luck with that". I just don't see how he's an UPGRADE from Bower...and like others have pointed out, Bower was a bargain.

for all his faults, Nutt did a pretty good job of locking down arkansas , for what its worth!

But who were his competition??

we were talking about locking down the state, so....... every out of state school. the problem in miss is bama, lsu, auburn fl, not miss st and smu. if he can keep the talent home, he should have plenty to compete!

TX, OU, even Nebraska. And there was more than just Arky who wanted the likes of McFadden and Jones...but he got 'em.
Those schools compete for all top athletes regardless of state, I mean in state. He had the same deal as LSU but Arky isn't quit the hotbed of talent that the bayou is..
